Hi Julie, at my institution we offer an online speech class. Learners use Adobe Connect a web conferencing system to deliver their live speeches. It's been very successful! Tina
Hi Julie, I think you make an important point. If there are too many dependent learners in the course, it can take a considerable amount of time, so fewer learners is mor manageable. Tina
Hi Rhonda, this learner can be very disruptive to the entire class, so it's important to help them understand that you are there to support them regardless of whether they have a learning disability or just need 1:1 time to understand what to do. Tina
I agree Tina. It is critical to help the learner understand the relevance of activities to motivate them to engage. Tina
Hi Rhonda, I think you bring up an important point about diagnosing learning issues and working with dependent learners. One of the biggest problems is getting these learners to interact to let us know the problems they are having. Many times, despite numerous outreach, they will not engage in a dialog to understand their needs, so we can support them. Tina
Hi Melissa, I agree; however, it is very difficult to engage a nonengaged learner. We continue to communicate missed assignments, to ensure we continuously communicate but many do not respond to our outreach. Tina
Discussion Comment
Hi Melissa, do you feel that Kathy may be loosing motivation to learn? Tina
Hi Melissa, I love online learning too! I agree with you that it replaces the lecture and focuses on interactions to build critical thinking and construct knowledge. Tina

Hi Gelena, I appreciated our examples. I think for Kathy, she may also be loosing motivation, so it's important to provide motivating comments to keep her engaged. Tina
Hi Melissa, can you expand on your ideas about the ratio relating to the complexity or difficulty of the course? Tina
