A journal is great for making notes of what worked well in the classroom as well as what pitfalls to avoid. Many instructors teach the same material phase after phase and the journal will only help to improve your performance.

I can track the progress in my classroom. For example, if I feel like a particular assignment went very well, I will write it down to record for future classes. On the flip side, if I sense that the students did not enjoy the presentation, I can write down what happened in class that day to brainstorm how to better present that particular set of material.
