educating students

That is our job, and the more knowledge we have to share the better we can teach out students to be successful. The more thay trust us to get the job done.

Hi Anthony:
Well, we sure have the opportunity to be good role models, a little biyt each day. We can teach professionalism by example!

Words mean different things when giving definitions. I can "teach", but there is nothing in that that implies learning. Only when instructors convey or transfer knowledge does a student learn. Maybe we should be refered to as learner facilitators, because that comes closest to what educating students is all about.

Regards, Barry

I agree that with the definition that education is "training and instruction in a particular subject." Sometimes, as former chefs, we tend to think that as long as we are "training" our students how to cook, they are learning or being educated. However, we need to enhance their learning by providing them with planned lessons, demonstrations, and hands-on practice so that they learning can be more student-centered. I am a strong believer that we need to also develop the soft or career skills they need to have in order to be successful in this profession. Besides emphasizing and providing them with these skills we need to demonstrate and model it everyday as well.

Hi Shane:
I think the basic traits all teachers should possess and demonstrate is being caring, approachable, honest and sincere, willing to spend time, patient, and showing genuine courtesy and respect at all times with all students. In this setting, along with the technical or professional instruction, students will be positioned well to learn.

Hi Rebecca:
As teachers, we were hired because of our education and/or experience. In every way we can, our focus should be to transfer as much of what we know to our students. They in turn, will take waht we give and take it further. That's how these students will make progress in the future.

educating true is our job but do they really need to know that you've been in your field for years and years to earn trust to get a job done. I think keeping a minumum is also important but use personal experiences to earn trust and be honest
