As a health care instructor, incorporating movie clips of the subject matter enhances the power point presentation.
Hi Tonya:
One idea when selecting course material and media is to try employ as many teaching styles as we can in order to address as many learning styles as possible. Selecting material and presenting it in a visual, audio, and kinesthetic way is generally considered the most efficient method of delivery.

Hi Gary:
If using PPT, one general, all-purpose guideline to remember about using power-point is this – don’t read the slides to the students. Unless you’re deliberately trying to make a point, reading slides is the quickest way to have students tune out during the lesson.
Instead, it’s better to cover the main points on the slide, and have the students refer to the notes on their own.

I like to ultilize power point. It keeps the whole class on track. its good to have a couple points then discuss them with the class rather have them just highlight words in the book from lecture. It gives me the oppurtunity to receive feedback from the students also.
In mathematics courses, I find that a combination of PowerPoint presentations to list key concepts along with working out specific examples on a whiteboard or smartboard to be an effective combination of media. I prefer showing the students how to work problems in a step-by-step fashion rather than just showing them the complete solution all at once.
I tend to make my own PP with aid from the publisher's versions. I find that sometimes the publishers have too much information in their presentations and students get overwhelmed. I like to pare down the information on the slide and discuss the rest.
