Hi Geneva-Marie:
Students expect a lot from their instructors. Sometimes I think they are being too unrealistic if they hold their teachers up to a high standard.

Nonetheless, I think being as real as possible, approachable and showing a desire to be helpful to all students in a friendly manner, and of course, being knowlegebale in their subject matter - these traits will produce good results in the classroom.

Hi Christopher:
You are deomnstrating perfectly the need for "balance" in our delivery methods to make sure that no "one" method gets overused and becomes a distraction to the students.

Regards, Barry

The more organized, comforatble, and professional and instructor is the more productive the environment will be.

Hi Coleen:
Thats great you have a natural (or learned) ability to tune into people and modify your affect based on their needs. That would be a great class to sit in on: "How to read people and Respond in order to Improve Learning". It would be interesting.

Excellent Judith!

Your presentations sound much like mine! My students abhore the power points. They have stated in their student reviews that they look forward to coming into my classes for my theatrics! I was so suprised when I first read this about myself! I always come to class prepared and ahead of my students. I always greet each and everyone of them by name when they arrive. I make a point of making sure each student feels special. By doing this, they know they can come to me about anything at any time, and they do! I have never tossed anything in class, however, I love this suggestion! Although in my case it would have to be a bone and that might hurt! LOL!

Hi Barry!

I may have to change my "personality" for each class depending on my students. I was a waitress for many years so I am very good at playing to my audience. ;) I can usually get a sense for what is going on with a person immediately. I use whatever their mood is to get through to them. Sometimes I can be very demonstrative to the class as a whole, and other times I may have to tone it down a bit and focus more on the students individually. It all depends on the class and their mood at the moment. I have found, for what I teach, power points are not so good. They seem to like my theatrics as they have referred to them better.

Hi Kathryn:
Good tenets of structure! I feel traits of being honest and sincerity will always be received well. If we can make classes fun, upbeat, and enjoable at the same time, we will have little trouble keeing students attention and focused.

I feel compassion, sternness along with a sense of humor go a long way in delivery of instruction. It lets the students know you are human and you have high expectations for them.

Hi Donald:
I think we all have that "something special" and it's uniquely manifested in our individual personalities.

Garry,
I really agree with your view. My favorite instructors all had out going personalities and really motivated students to learn. I like to think I'm of the same mold.

Hi Judith:
You've descibe why students like some classes betyter than others - it's the dynamic and approach the teacher displays and facilitator of a course. Can't really add much to something you already do that seems like your class would be a lot of fun and interewsting to sit in!

Regards, Barry

I am an enthusiastic instructor. I have noticed that enthusiasm is catchy with students. My passion for my topic helps in maintaining interest because of my facial expressions, and change in voice tonation. I like to move around the room and make eye contact with my students.
I dont' like to stand in front of the room the entire time. I like to interject thought provoking, critical thinking questions throughout the delivery. I like to use varied instructional strategies and even think outside of the box to provide a more effective delivery. I've been known to toss soft musical balls, and make entertaining powerpoint. I never use the standard powerpoints.

Hi Katherine:
I like this flow! Just to amplify, each teacher will have their own version of doing this. We can't be artificial because students will sense that. Being sincere and honest in our approach with students in an upbeat, positive manner, in ouer own way is like saying "I'm apprachable, willing and wanting to help, and I encourage you to do your best, and I'm here to help you do that". How nice when that happens on a regular basis.

Hi Kenan:
Your class sounds like fun! Whenever we can actively engage students (keeping their attention, focused on taking in the information from the teacher), students will benefit. Your extemporaneous style lends itself to a creative, interactive, and fresh style that most students would probably enjoy.

Hi Shronda:
An instructors personality can shape the students view of the importance, relevance, application, and efiiciency of the class and their learning of the needed information.

Hi Maria:
Great!. When we project confidence, that reassures students and helps them rely on our advice, instruction, and suggestions on how to do our assigned work successfully.

Regards, Barry

My personality plays a huge role, I am not a very organized person but I am very confident in my knowledge and experience in my field. I try to convey my confidence to my students.

Hi Scott:
Some personalities may tend to emphasize some traits more than others. But there are common traits that we are all cabable of embracing and consistently portraying to our students.

Regards, Barry

HUGE,i beleive the student beleives most of what you say ,so if you show your passion and you are approachable it shows students that you are human and not there to mess them up but to rteach them and make it worthwhile so they look foward to your class. My personality shows this

Hi Joseph:
For sure, all teachers ought to be able to consistently role model professionalism. Our unique expressions will vary, but if we're sincere, approachable, and competent, students will get used to our ways and feel comforatble with the instruction we provide.
