Hi Richard:
Pretesting allows adjusting the learning plan to better address student needs.

Regards, Barry

In my field area (research writing) the pre-test is a life saver for both students and myself. The Pre-test is a shield in a sense in that if I ask students, "Do you know how to create in-text citations?" I'm going to get a lot of nods even from those who don't know. If I pre-test...the test will say to the student "You need to visit the 'review' module your instructor created for you!"

I use a pre-test practical on the first day of class. It gives me an opportunity to assess each student's competency directly in context to their expected performance level in the class, and helps me tailor future class times to remedially work on skills if necessary.

you can see where the student is in their need for learning

It helps both students and instructor to determine level of understanding of materials prior to class. Most students have the tendency to NOT read ahead of lecture making it more difficult and timely for instructor to cover objectives for the day.

I believe this wilp help by finding out their actual knowledge of the subject. I also try to have an introduction before every class to get an idea of where my students our coming from. that is area and job knowledge.

I like the idea of using a pre-test. This helps the instructor to understand the knowledge base of the entire class and each individual student. I have often taught classes where some students are much more advanced the other students. It can be a challenge to tailor your teaching to many different levels of learning however it is good to know what you are dealing with.

Pretest help the teacher to know the student better, you will learn how much the student know about vocabulary, the student habits, the learning techniques that the student use and the interest and knowledge in the program he or she is been register.

Prestests promote preparedness among the students. Pretests help students to redescribe the class from a different perspective.

Excellent tool for students as well as instructor. Aids in teaching to the knowledge level of the audience.

Pre-test are especially important when you have a large amount of content to cover in just a little bit of time (condensed curriculum) by gauging the level of knowledge in the beginning of the class, one can get a better picture of strong/weak points for your students. When creating the lesson plan you know where to focus and where you can back off. You only have so much time to cover the content so you have to make it count.

Hi Stephen:
And of course the nbenefit is that we are able to better teach our courses based on where the students ae at in their learning.

Makes you aware of what knowledge the students already have so you can plan accordingly.

I like the idea of using a pre-test, I am always finding that it is a challenge to know where are the students are academically especially because of the huge variety of backgrounds. The pretest will help to show the areas that need to be focused on or reviewed. It will also help to determine a 1 on 1 tutoring session if needed.

They help you to kow what you already know and what you dont know so you can study the areas you dont know.

Pre-tests are an excellent tool in conducting of baseline assessment of the students knowledge base, and special instruction can be focused on areas on need.

The pretest can be used as baseline and further building blocks can be laid based on it.

It will give the student and the instructor an idea of the knowledge of the student in the course and which areas that will need the most focus in the current class. It will also inform you as to whether the student has read the material prior to coming to class.

Pre-testing gives the instructor the ability to evaluate what the students have learned and retained. The results will dictate what material the instructor needs to review with the students.

Pretests can help me to evaluate where my students are in their knowledge, skills, and abilities and can help me to prepare my class instructions and activities so that each student can learn the required material
