My students start out working with computers and using a Real-Time stenography program. The social networks, guest speakers are grat resources. The power point is a great tool also.
When I am intructing a new class on how to take vital signs, its difficult for them to understand exactly what the sounds are that they need to hear when taking a bllod pressure , therefore I found a site that shows a video of the equipment and gives ten examples of the sight and sounds of blood pressure . It has been a tremendous help in accomplishing the goal for the students to understand what it is they are listening for. In this case technology is great!
As an instructor I like starting with the bare curriculum students need to pass the course. As they master the bare essentials, I implement new stages into my lesson plan that challenge them even more. Theses stages may include resources that further explain, the certain we are covering in the course.
The more they understand, comprehend, and show will to excel, i try to give them more resources that help them further integrate their curriculum into their prospective career field. Bringing just a little more detail of the jobs they should be expecting when they enter their careers.
Developing condense versions of hand-out to simplfy difficult concepts.
Susan,
This is a great way to implement their (students) personal technology, into the classroom. Because most or all students now have smartphones, instructors must find ways to embrace their communication devices.

After using Power Points and lecture notes to present the lesson plan content, I frequently use handouts and excel worksheets with white fonts to apply accounting procedures to activities. After students provide answers, I change the white font to black to show correct answers. This allows both me and students assess their achievements.
When a word comes up in class that they might not remember or know, I allow them to Google it on their phone. When they have to look it up themselves, they tend to remember the definition instead of me just giving them the definition.
April,
This is an excellent idea! Conducting an "in-class" field trip, is an effective method for engaging the students. Also, it is very "budget friendly".

I contacted a company that does NDT inspection and they were able to send a crew over to show students some of the cutting edge technology in their field It was invaluable and motivating to the students.
When I am teaching an Accounting or Finance class, I encourage students to do problems in Excel. Many textbooks include Excel templates and this can enhance learning and help the students complete assignments in less time.
I take ideas from when I was in class, what did I enjoy my teacher doing. I remember we went to the Bodies Exhibit for my Anatomy and Physiology class. It is not available for me to take my class to, so I found pictures on the internet and brought the exhibit to them. A lot of them found it to be very cool, and it helped from visualize more effectively the human body.
Adding resources to classroom/lab learning, helps to reinforce concepts we are teaching. In addition to guest speakers with years of experience, bringing in a graduate who has 1-2 yrs in the field can also be refreshing for the students. Adding media that demonstrate difficult concepts is also a valuable tool.
I have reps come in and help the students understand sutures. Who better than someone who sells them!
Inviting subject matter experts in the classroom on relevant topics add value to the students' classroom experience and integration.
I find that taking an intial assessment of student knowledge is vital. If you have an understanding of what their current level of knowledge and experience is you can use that to supply them with appropriate resources that will allow them to draw upon their previous knowledge. This makes learning easier since they can tie what they are learning to what they already know.
there is a new generation on a regular basis. how they learn or observe helps to create objectivity. Exploring the dimensions from which the instructor can comprehend, established the need to gather information so that it can be tracked and understood.
Adding resources varies, according to the subject of the course and the course objectives. In my school, adding resources can only be done by the curriculum development department. However, if I feel that a particular publication or diagram will be beneficial to the course, I can submit a revision request, asking for it to be incorporated. As for other types of resources, such as relevant tools and special equipment, I have the ability to do a purchase request and utilize them in the lesson plan without any formal revisions.
Teaching the mechanics of things can be hard from a slide or powerpoint. I try to find animations or videos wherever possible so the students can see the moving parts in order to better understand what I'm explaining.
Introducing guest speakers, employers, and successful graduates to students motivates and inspires them as well as find an opportunity for these mentors to provide students with industries' expectations, including their hard and soft skills.
