Instructor Motivation

Instructors who daily motivate their students will keep better retention, higher test scores, and will have happier students!

Keeping upbeat and trying to show how motovated you are can have a domino effect on the students.I try to keep them smiling which also helps motivate.

I think another good motivational key is to show the students your genuine concern for thier success...I like to ask daily how things are in general...not just with the class or subject matter but overall...nothing too deep but a chance to relate a life experience to something career related. We are after all working to achieve a total outcome for a successful student in whatever field they choose. Sometimes you can examples of sucess in others they encounter.

Asking questions as you go makes them think.

Scott, I do agee with everything you state but, also the body language plays an important part in it.

I agree I always stay up beat in clas and the students tend to like that.

I agree, I have have found that giving a what's in it for me speach helps. Challenging student to acheive higher than they thought they could makes instruction much easier. Ask for more and you may get it.

I have found that the best way for me to get students motivatied is to have a little chat with them at the beginning of class and talk about some positive thing that you heard about happening in the industry, such as who won the race at daytona last week !

The challenge we face is motivating all the different types of students with as little loss of information-giving time as possible.

I agree. By keeping the students motivated and their attention peaked, the instructor will generally be very succesful in all aspects of the classroom

I totally agree. I daily put a motivational quote on the board and it is usually from someone in the field. I try to make sure my students understand that most people in their field went through something similar to what they are now experiencing.
