Professionalism

Do you think its important for staff to set an example for their students?

William,
Well said. It starts early and continues. Once an individual has made respect a part of his or her life then it becomes a tool they can use for personal and professional success. Respect leads to rapport and rapport helps to establish creditability for that person.

yes i was always taught that respect is earned so if you start from day one dressing properly, starting class on time then the students will know what is expected from them. not being tardy and dressing in clean cloths and proper grooming habits.

As an instructor, it is very important to relay professionalism. The instructor is the one who displays what is expected of the student, appropriate behavior to be expected, and to demonstrate how to handle various situations.

When the boundaries of professionalism are broken, so is the reputation of the instructor and the management of the classroom.

Yes, it is very important ! Sets the tone for your classroom . Students will have an enjoyable ,productive learning experience .

I agree- having the right material is vital to teachers to be able to teach

I enjoy watching my students grow and develop into a professional. Being able to mentor them is very rewarding.

Hi Anthony,
Good question because the opportunities to lose one's cool can occur frequently in some teaching situations. It is good to pause in these situations and think through what is happening and then select some options for dealing with the situation. This way the students won't see the instructor in a stressed out mode.
Gary

yes it is very important, students look up to their teachers, we as a teacher must set an example for our students.

The staff are the ones that the students see as the main representation of the school that they are looking at possibly attending. If the students see the staff setting a bad example they will get the wrong impression of what the school is representing.

Absolutely. It sets the tone for the class.

Although Professionalism is important wat happens when u almost loos ur cool with students that are insubordinate

Hi Lori,
I agree as well. We must be professional in all that we do so our students will see models of the career areas they are preparing to enter.
Gary

I absolutely agree. We can not expect students to act in a professioanl manner if their instructors are not paving the way.

Hi Pearl,
Right you are about students looking to instructors as being models. We need to remember this each time we enter the classroom as well as how we conduct ourselves in other setting throughout the school.
Gary

Yes i think that is the key to a sucessful class I think students look to their instructors to set the exampl. The way we start our classes is the way things will be doing the whole term.

Hi Sarah,
Good point. We are professionals that represent our field so we need to reflect the highest standards of the field in our behavior, dress and communication.
Gary

Absolutely, that is part of what we are there for is to help encourage their professionalism. By setting a good example, we contribute to their professionalism.

Hi Donella,
Yes! Instructors, staff and all personnel of the college set the tone for how the students perceive the college.
