Hi Zulema,
This is a great resource for students since they will be able to identify the key points as a result of your class notes. As you say many students are not good note takers or have been out of school for a while and forgotten how to be students. This helps them to be more efficient in their content acquisition.

Hi Wenona,
Good point about how to target the learning needs of your students. The more you know about them the better you can customize to their learning preferences. This will result in more effective learning and everyone one wins.

Techniques that i can use to refine my style is to use more visuals and hands on learning. I find it that my students love this style. Some of the topics I teach that are a little bit boring, if you may ask doesn't have alot of interaction and I should employ that to make the learning experience more memorable.
continue with ceu's and getting the most up-to-date information for the students. listening to their needs.
i will be a bit more approachable and employ what was learned in the module
i outline my daily objectives, make my expectations clear, and can fine tune my performance by what was learned in the module.
I set up a print out of the class notes and worksheets available to the students online. This helps students keep up with the course notes even if their note taking skills are not that good.
In addition to folloing up on background informatin about the students to select examples which they can relate to I use powerpoint presentations and real iive events including current events which the students can relate. I also show an excitement for the subject area I am teaaching. I have found that my excitement for the subject is contagious. The more I enjoy the class the more they seem to enjoy it.
I can assess the various backgrounds of students as far as the subject is concerned and determine the amount of additional support information needs to be added. As I assess this, I can determine how much to stress one area versus another. In addition by knowing the background of students (educational and Professional) I can determine how to relate the subject area to them so that it is more relevant and understandable.
My instructional sytle varies and changes with the needs of the student. Lecture style utilizing Powerpoint lectures is usually the best means of delivering all of the necessary information. Lectures however, can be boring to the class and I might "lose" students. To avoid the "glazed over" look from students I incorporate visual aids. Group assignments and projects help build a good relationship amongst students and allows for their more creative side to show. Finally, I sometimes allow the students to teach the class. I in turn summarize the most important points to bring closure to the information that was presented.
Use fun and interactive ways of teaching the topics. I like to make sure the students use all their senses, to instill the knowledge. Some of the more harder topics that I teach, I tend to use more interactive games or molding of clay etc, to make the learning more fun and memorable. If an experience is fun for the student, it will be implanted in their memory as well as what you have taught. Learning should be fun. Also, adjusting your style to your students needs is a plus as well.
I would that I have positive and enthusiastic approach in the class room. I do believe I need to improve on management of time in the class room. Hopeing with taking classes such as this that I will find new ways to approach managing the class room
I use group discussion, lecture, power point and film in my classes
Hi Krista,
Students like application and relevancy in their teaching so the more you can provide this instructional format the greater the retention of content will be.

Stay true to your teaching style and stay on the objectives that need to teached.
Hi LaToya,
Good points in relation to class management. By setting the stage on how the class will operate from the first day the opportunity for the class to move forward in a positive manner is greatly enhanced. This allows for more instruction time and less need for behavior management.

I am very hands on with my teaching style. I need to show the students how it is done and not just talk about it.
Hi Robert,
Good strategy for professional development. It is a constant growing opportunity because after we teach a course we can reflect on what did and did not go like we wanted and work to bring change and improvement the next time we teach.
Gary
Hi Anita,
Keep your zeal for learning and you will continue to grow. This is the fun part of being a teacher. We get to learn twice, once as a student and then again when we learn more about the topic as we prepare to teach.
Gary
Using real world example is what I do alot in my class. I feel students can not relate to a lot of things unless you put it into their real life situation.
