Lisa,
Good plan that will greatly expand your knowledge about instructional delivery while giving you additional ideas on how to introduce your course content.
Gary
One way to expand one's instructional abilities is to observe other instructors' classes, especially if you know of an instructor who is highly recommended by either students or colleagues. Their teaching style maybe different from your own, but you can get a sense of why this instructor is highly regarded, and you may pickup some ideas to try out in your own classroom.
Another way of expanding your instructional abilities is to reflect on each class, what went well, what didn't work. In your refection, think about why something did not work, and ways to improve it. Also, think about why something went well, and if there is anything that can be changed to make it even better. There always is room for improvement!
Catherine,
All good ways to expand your knowledge base about how to develop as an instructor.
Gary
Thao,
This always a great way to gain additional perspective on instructional delivery. Good way to expand your instructional delivery knowledge base.

Some ways I can expand my instructional abilities are to take continuing education courses, observe fellow collegues and review student feedback from previously taught classes. I can learn new methods of delivering materials to different types of students and ways to make the information more interesting. I also try to keep the material current and related to recent events in the field. The last way I can expand my instructional abilities is to continue utilizing technology to teach. There are so many useful tools to help student be more engaged in the learning process.
There are many ways; classes on class room delivery, learning more about student learning styles, observing other instructors in the classroom, especially if they have a reputation for good student retention and good student evaluations, seeking out feedback from supervisors or anyone else that observes my presentations, monitoring student grades to assess comprehension of presented material, and keeping current in my field.
By taking these online courses for one.
Two, by more experience I have teaching.
Interacting with the forum groups
Asking my peers & boss their imput.
As a new instructor, I find it helpful to sit in on other instructor's classes to observe their style and watch how their students respond. This way, I am better able to adjust my teaching style.
Some great ways to expand instructional abilities is to always be looking for ways to learn new things. Spending time discussing teaching styles with other instructors, reading articles or books that have information related to your field, taking seminars and keeping up to date on state and national requiremnts for your field, are great ways to expand your knowlege. Another good way to improve your skills would be to keep a instructor journal. With this you can write down what techniques worked and didn't. This gives you the opportunity to reflect on what you are doing well and what areas you may need to improve on. You can aslo share this with your fellow instructors and get their feedback on how they may have handeled similar situations that you had in the classroom so as to learn ways to better impcat the students.
Stelian,
Great list of ways to expand your instructional expertise. You are bringing all of your life experiences into play as you develop your instructional style and delivery. I know you are going to have continued teaching success with these efforts.
Gary
My instructional abilities are endless, or shall I say as far as I want to take it. The course of MaxKnowledge is very informative and educational. I find that there are many ways that I can expand besides reading and taking tests on MaxKnowledge. I can get feedback from other instructors. I can and I did get feedback from the students themselves and the preceptors that they work with. My education from the business world, from my other life is paying off again. People relation is one of the biggest key to success. How to talk to students, how to listen and the response are all very important in expanding my instructional abilities. I believe I got a long way, but I know that I am working in the right direction.
Thank you for your time Doc. Talk to you soon.
Stelian
Kim,
You have a great network of growth opportunities plus you are giving back much to your field through your organizational service work. This is how you stay current as you mentioned. Keep up the good work.
Gary
By using more interactive and visual components. Also, the use of guest lecturers will be a benefit. Additional online personal training is a useful tool
I will be attending several seminars and webinars to inhance my instructional abilities. I usually give students a survey at the end of the quarter to complete to get feedback on how I as instructor can make the course more meaningful and helpful to them. We also have quarterly meetings to discuss different ideas to help teach different topics. I also belong to the assembly on education and network with other instructors on a national level.
I currently work in the field and attend several different training sessions at my Full-time job along with some training seminars offered through the college. I subscribe to the Journal if AHIMA and also belong to the National, State and Local Associations. Within the National Organization I belong to the Assembly of Education (AOE) where I network and share teaching materials with other instructors on a National Level.
Alberta,
This is a great way to get flow the class. This way you are offering different learning opportunities and instructional variety and this keeps the students engaged.
Gary
There are a few ways to do this and I think the most important one is being prepared for the material being presented. You as an instructor you have to keep updated yourself and continue to learn yourself. This can be done with internet searches, in-services, and extra classes are available in your field of study.
Identify different learning styles of students at this point I feel is most important to me as an instructor. The syllibl we use is very well prepared. So students in my classes are either very out going or quiet students. The quiet students are usually the ones I'm slack on.
The first thing I do is get a feel for the class. Depending on the class dynamics I will begin with lecture over content on weekly outline for few minutes, mixed with some sort of hands on skill to enforce learning. I will then continue with lecture about 10-15 minutes, next I will have students work in small groups and re-present information to ensure they grasp information and are able to utilize in proper context i.e. medical situation, body system etc.
We are the student role model they will mirror what they see, therefore the instructor must always be professional.
