One way to enhance my instructional style is to work with other instructors and bounce ideas off of them. We all have our own way of teaching and see how others would teach a lesson or lead an exercise may help in developing a new way of getting students to understand the material. This is especially helpful if you are trying to motivate students during a lesson that is dry or not overly exciting.

David,
As you know students really like hearing about real world situations and examples. By doing so you are showing the value of the content you are sharing and this increases the ROI for your students.

Patricia,
Good professional development plan. By working through these different areas you are going to expand your expertise and increase your effectiveness as an instructor.

I talk with my students about real situations on the real work.

Take additional courses for professional development and to educate myself on various instructional techniques. Pay attention to how students react to my instructional style and identify ways to improve

Roberta,
Have fun with this. I think you will find it exciting as you experiment with different styles and find the one that works best for you and your students.

I can practice different styles and see what one/s work the best for me and my personality.

This course has been beneficial to my own personal development. It is easy to step into a classroom and begin teaching without ever realizing how i am being perceived by the students.

Patti,
I'm a big fan of using humor as a teaching tool. My content area is very serious as well so without humor I think all of us, both my students and myself would wear down and become overwhelmed by the content. With humor we can have fun share a laugh and still learn what is needed.

I have found humor to be a tremendous help as an instructor. While the content I need to present in class is serious in nature, I have found that humor reduces student anxiety, increases student attention and enables students to retain more information.

I can attend an online class to improve my skills and learn more about technical skills.

John,
Good professional development plan.

I keep active in my local professional organization. I attend meetings; keep up with the required CEUs; and when possible attend seminars sponsored by the national organization.

Tony,
It is important to get a "read" of your students and your opening of class this way does that. This sets the stage for you to customize your instructional to reflect their mood for that day and as a result you keep the class moving forward.

I am completely new to education and will need to develop my Instructional Style. These courses are providing a fantastic foundation for me to build upon.

Thank you.

I can aim for an inclusive curriculum. Use text and readings that reflect new scholarship and research about previously especially about underrepresented groups.
