Learning Environment
Teaching and Learning meet in the teaching and learning environment. The Learner must be active. The learning environment should be designed to be as powerful as dedicated working environments. It must be rich and complex reflecting the essential properties of what has to be learned.
Hello Pamela,
I very much agree. This can be a huge distraction to the students. Students want to feel as if they are in an environment fit for their learning. By providing a rich solid environment will definately help the student's learning.
This is very true statement. poor lighting plays a huge role in keeping the students focused on the material low lighting can be some what too relaxing and students will not pay much attention. with the temperature an ideal setting is hard to find for someone is always too hot or too cold this will keep the kids focused on instructions for the day
Kelly,
Not sure how to answer this concern because it is so tough for those that are graduating this year. I would focus on the human factor in their profession, which is based upon compassion and help them to see themselves as professionals in the field of nursing and try and diminish impact of the physical environment.

How is it best to teach within an enviroment that is less than ideal. Poor lighting, poor seating. I typically try to make the best of it addressing individual concerns but the global complaints are often met with me just saying over and over we are nurses and we need to learn to be effective in the worst of environments.
One year until new building doesn't help these students, they will be completed with their program.
You are right about that. Also keep in mind that things like room temperature, good lighting, and avoiding over-crowding will have a big effect on the learning environment.
