A positive first impression can be a warm, encouraging introduction to your students informing them that you are there for them and will be there along the way to see them achieve their academic goals.

A positive first impression sets the tone. I set a positive impression on the first day by greeting the students with enthusiasm and confidence. I always arrive early and make small talk and share information about myself with the students until class starts.

Most students came to class the first day with a little anxiety ,fear and expectations. we as teacher need to help them ease those feelings away. An aprochable demeanor ,a smile and telling and showing them how exited you are to go in this learning journey together . I do think we definitively have to demostrate students that we are exited about the course.

Students need to have a positive first impression because they are more likely to be motivated and do better academicaly.

a positive impression is waiting for the students and greeting your student everyday as they attend class.

A positive impression is VERY important. I usually teach a lot of the student success courses at my college and I get the reputation as being one of the most positive people on campus. I think that we have to be positive since we have students that may be getting a lot of negative reinforcement at home or in other areas of their lives. We have to maintain an environment where our students will want to come back to class every day. Insructors need to make sure they keep their own emotions and issues in check so the students will have a good experience at your institution.

I believe people are looking to someone who is capable of motivating them to learn. They need to know that you care, you have the expertise in your area of instruction, and you possess vast knowledge of the work place and valued real life experience as to where they intend to go with their career. In short, you are genuine and professional.

A positive first impression is vital with your overall appearance. Your dress most be appropriate, how you utilize the three V's. The three V's of verbal, voice, and visual cues are key to how people preceive you as a person, instructor and so forth. Utilizing these aspects will create for you solid, realistic believability and credibility that showa you are professional, knowledgeable and experienced in your field of instruction.

An instructor's first impression should be serious but also caring. He/she should answer questions and be concerned for students who may have missed receiving handouts or who ask questions on the first day. The instructor should share an example of his past experience or skills (such as typing speed in a typing class) in the subject area to assure the students of his knowledge.

First impressions make lasting impressions. The instructor is in charge os setting the tone, pace, and goals in the class.

We only have that 1 chance to gain the trust and respect form the students. They are looking for knowledge and we as professors need to uphold their expectations, as I did for my professors when I was a student. First impressions are crucial to the student - professor relationship that is formed in the first class meeting.

I find that icebreaker allow the students to overcome the first day nervousness. Also it help the entire class, as well as the instructor to have fun and get to know each and every students and their learning style.

A positive first impression sets the mood for the whole course and confirms your credibility. I believe it helps set the environment for successful learning.

I believe that the first impression I make to new students set the tone for the entire class. It let's students know so many things about me as an instructor as well as how the material will be presented.

Daisy,
Good way to kick off a positive and supportive class for the students. You can then build on that positive first impression from there.

It is very important to make a good first impression. this will set the pace for how student will see you. either you know what you are talking about or not. before every class I teach, I make sure I am well prepared, have all my hand outs copied, ensure my classroon is nice and clean and write introcution info on the board. this also helps me stay on track with items to cover. I will have the students work on an icebreaker project to help them also feel comfortable.

Dr. Mmuo,

Personally, I think that a positive first impression goes a long way to establishing students interest in the course. It makes them acknowledge you as a mentor, model and motivator. It sets he tone for their active participation and performance in the class.

From my experience, I always ensure that I am neatly dressed, organized and prepared for my first class with the needed syllabus and course materials. That way, I am able to transition smoothly and engage the students in the wonders that can emerge from attending my class.

It has worked so well for me. My students always love my class and are actively engaged.
