The saying "first impressions last" is so true...how the instructor comes across to students on the first day sets the tone for the entire course.
I would also add to this list that creating a positive first impression puts your students at ease to know that they are in good hands and can trust you as their instructor. By showing that your are organized, friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely interested in seeing them succeed, you are allowing your students to focus more on learning the material and less on course admin details. I think this also helps lessen test anxiety in some students.
First impressions are key. I have had many instructors in the past come in late and appeared unorganized. Students are embarking on a new adventure and are excited.
First impression is lasting. Making a positive first impression is important in earning the respect and courtesy of the new class. This will make the students look up to you as the person in authority whom they can model with.
To begin a first impression is a lasting impression! You want to do your best to have a positive first impression, because you are setting the stage/course for future interaction or lack there of. You want to have an enviroment that is conducive to learning, an atmosphere that encourages conversation and education but most of all, it encourages and fuels progess/success.
It is very helpful to read this course that we need to show up for class earlier to put everything ready for the class and start the class on time. First time, you greet each student by standing at the door of the classroom. There is a short video clip to show that a professor at Harvard University said: He got into class a half an hour earlier, he even adjusted the clothes for a walking-in adult- student, he got the right spirit and the heart for the class by chatting with students. Students must be very impressed by his actions. Positive impression is very important for starting a class.
The first impression, shows the student what is expected of them. Proper dress, attitude and more. Ths student want an teacher. They want to be confident that will learn well.
Making a good first impression, sets the stage for the whole class and the whole term. It is true you can never make a first impression a 2nd time.
The students need to know that you are knowledgable about the subject.
Hi Sarah,
Powerful and true. That first impression sets the tone for the upcoming course. Granted a poor first impression can be corrected with time and effort but it is so much easier to make a positive first impression and build from there rather than trying to dig out of a negative hole.

Creating a positive first impression will earn your students' trust. This will set the tone for your classroom for the rest of you time with them.
It helps to set expectations and help the students understand what to expect
It's your opportunity to set the tone for the class as well as lead the way. Sometimes we have to do damage control and correct things that might have gone wrong prior to us getting those students. I find that it helps to reduce concerns and anxiety that the student is carrying around.
To dhow student the professionalism necessary in the healthcre field.
It encourges students to go to class and listen to you.
Making a positive first impression can set the tone for the entire term. Students want to know that they made a could choice which means they want to know if the instructor knows what they are doing.
