Learning styles and class preparation
What are some of the different ways you prepare your course content to address the different learning styles?
I will use many different ways to get my piont aross visual, written, and finally follow up with a hands on demonstration. The student will be able to follow up when repairing their equipment in the lab.
If I were teaching a course, I would prepare course content to be delivered in multiple ways to meet as many of the different learning styles as possible. For instance, some of the course material would be presented with powerpoint, for visual learners. I would give lectures over the information for auditory learners, and then provide a hands on experience for those who learn best kinetically, or tactile learners.
Different learning styles for different students to reach them, Using different methods will have something for everybody. This will include a lecture and demonstration by the instructor, Open discussion in class and of course reading of the material by the learner “the learner learns what the learner creates†followed by intense hands on in lab
I like to recommend to the students that they read the chapter the night before the lecture. Tell them the subject, teach them the subject and tell them the subject I just taught. This is followed up by a hands on lab projects. Knowing the material inside and out is key. You may have to explain it more than one way to other students that don’t connect with the concept.
I realize that not only each class is different but each individual is as well. The first thing I do is gauge my audience. If they are quite I know I have to work on pulling more out of them. If they have more questions, I have to pay attention to what they are asking, not only as a group but as individuals. Then tailor my instruction to all of the class needs.
Hi Ralph,
The connection between content and application is so important as you know. By taking them out into the lab you are reinforcing the connection between the two. This leads to higher retention of content and application.

The primary delivery method is the lecture. However in lecturing it is important to receive feedback from the students to ensure that the key points of the information is being received and understood. This can be accomplished by asking questions and receiving responses from the students. This will establish wether or not the information is being comprehended as delivered. Demonstrations or tactile processes will help clairify issues for some students. Making the classroom a comfortable environment for students to ask questions and share their uncertainties will also help students to learn.
i will use power points or draw out on the board. and sometimes a more effective way is to take students out to lab and show them physically the function of components in an engine.
Hi Keith,
This is a good way to reinforce the learning of your students. They get content and then application. This will increase their retention of the information they need for career success.

useing differnt ways of talking about the subject and making several pratice runs may be in front of family or wife, friends
The way I perfer is to have different types of trainings aids ready in class so the students can get as much hands on along with lecture and question answer in class. When we get to lab I like to go around and help students with any questions or problems
i try to lecture on a subject then allow the students to perform the tasks in lab then test on the subject
Have different ways you present your material. Present the same material a few different ways. Tell them what your going to tell them, tell them, then tell them what you told them. All without them knowing you told them the same thing 3 times.
We will start each day wil a brief summery of the prior day. This will help me to detremain the "mood" of the class so I can help determain the way I will present the information to the class for that day.On days that the class is gruff I may try to begin with something new or something that appeals to the class as a whole.
Need to observe your class to see how differently each class has to be taught either more through lectures or more visual methods or more hands on
In light of knowing that different people learn in different ways , it is important to try to include different information delivery options in your class. Mini lectures offer a set time for spoken instruction that allows the students to stay focused on the material being covered. Employing different styles of presenting material such as written tasks , pictures or slides, and even a type of show and tell are all important methods to use. Owning the information you are delivering through extensive preperation and planning is also vital to an instructors success.
Depending on the material that needs to be covered I would consider what style would best interest me and then go down in order until I came up with a lesson plan.
I have listened to other instructors teaching technic's. I have asked questions about different ways to address my class.
While going thru the material I will ask questions to a specific student. Also giving example's and demenstrating the component. Being careful not to single that student out. But being sure that they understand what I am asking.
Ask the class how their weekend/night was to get them relaxed. By doing this it also shows me how the class feels-tired, bad moods, etc. Do mini lectures with question through out and may give them a crossword puzzle relating to class content and have them come up front of class to give answers to keep class up and loose.
