keeping student awake and interested

you should use all of the suggestions covered in the material we just covered. which of the methods you use will depend on a lot of different conditions. a few these would be : the weather, class size, subject, expierence of students in subject being covered, ect.

Hi Kou,
Yes, learning can be fun and we need to work hard to help students to see that it can be. Thanks for your comments about bringing humor into the classroom. Laughter really helps to break the tension of learning while helping the students to reset their minds and get ready for the next part of the class.

I believe that keeping students awake and interested falls a little into making jokes while instructing. If they laugh a little while learning, hopefully they'll keep alert and interested.
Also if they are having fun while learning that is always a plus!

I would start the class with a short demonstration of the material they are to cover and then let them experiment and utilize the material that was presented. I would walk around the room and make sure they are doing the work correctly. I would also try to have some visuals to present to them.

Hi Jennifer,
You bring great balance to your instructional style. I know your students appreciate all that you are doing to keep the content interesting.
What are some of the activities that you do at the end of your lecture sessions to reinforce student learning?
Gary

Hi Harold,
Your method also helps to keep the students interactive with other class members. It is a way to bring all of the students into the learning process.

I tend to try to meet the needs of all my students while keeping them awake. I use different colored markers or powerpoint slides for my visual learners and I always say what I have written word for word for my auditory learners. For those who need to read it for themselves I always let my students know which page or chapter I am discussing, and every 15 to 20 minutes I give them an exercise. During the delivery I try to be humorous, which comes naturally to me. I also tell stories that are relevant to what we are discussing, hoping that it will help them remember come test time.

I use peer presure, and let their team members or other class mates stir them back into the activity

Hi Isiah,
Good observations about what it takes to be a good instructor. Always be on the lookout on how you can improve your professional skills and seek ways you can broaden your abilities as an instructor. This way you will see improvement in your teaching abilities as well as the learning of your students.

As covered we have to pay attention to students and how they react to lectures, remembering to try to grab the students attention from the opening. As the instructor I get from this course that reading lectures don't feel natural and can cause students to feel bored and uninterested, also we have to establish rapport with students to keep them awake and have them participate in the lecture somewhat.

I think I am a natural teacher. I speak in a way that they can hear my voice well and I enunciate english well. I can be funny at times and in real life i still do acting and performing work. I am compassionate and i fully understand the varied economic, cultural and other issues at hand. i am a global woman.

Personality plays a role into keeping students alert as well as time of day and sleep factor. I believe that making the students think really helps in gaining their alertness and keeping them focused. Being flexible and finding new and innovative ways to challenge students helps also in keeping students interested. Also, asking your students how best they enjoy learning as well.
