Learning Style

Very seldom you will have a class that every student learns the same way or learn at the same speed. This is why group discussions are beneficial. After discussing the subject, put students into a group and allow them to discuss the topic and then have each group to state what they discussed in their group. Students learn from each other and they feel that they can be honest with each other in their group.

Hi Ann,
In my classes I do a mini-lecture for 15-20 minutes then I have a discussion session, questions and answers, case studies or problem solving. I generally spend 15-20 on one of these activities before I deliver another mini-lecture. My class is 6 hours long so I need a lot of variety and activities to keep the students engaged since we meet from 4 until 10 pm.

How much time are you allowing for the discussion? How much for the follow up?
