it is good to know each students particular strengths on retaining information on the subjects taught
By understanding the different learning styles, we can adjust the delivery of information to touch on all aspects of learning. We all have our favorite learning style, however we all learn something from each of the styles, therefore we, as instructors, need to be careful not to focus on only one style and explain to our students that they do learn from all styles, not only their 'favorite'.
by knowing the learning styles you can cater to their learning style and put forth the easiest delivery of the materieal so that they will understand and retain it.
Knowing the various styles can help focus a class content and direction. It helps enable the instructor to present the material in the way that the students will be best able to receive it.
You can use different delivery techniques for your course so that you reach out to all of the students. By reaching out to all the students there is more retention by the students and they have a high percent of completion.
this will enable the students to succeed in their comfort sone
it helps me to get the students the information in a way the can handle it
i strongly agree, if we dont know the styles of the students learning, how would we ever be able to teach them at their level.
Hi Guy - As you point out, it is not always possibleto determine the learning styles of all your students. This is why by mixing up your delivery techniques you will be more likely to reach everyone. Best wishes - Susan
If you know the learning styles of your students, you are able to tailor your lessons accordingly and have opportunities to be more effective in teaching your students with methods that are relevant to them.
This is a little tricky. If you do not have a method to evaluate from the start, the instructors observation will have to take over. I can usually spot the students in my culinary class that write down HOW to do something and then do it. Then I have the students that see it and do it. It is finding the where the others are that is the hardest thing in a kitchen. That is why we demo and say the metod to hopefully help get them the others to the same level.
Knowing how to spot the different learning styles will help you in preparing for each class and what to bring to the table. Proper preperation will make it easier on the instructor to convey the information knowing all the styles are covered.
As a baking and pastry instructor we have a variety of learning styles present in our classroom. When we first get to know the students I assume they are hands on learners until I have some clarity. Evaluating them in the beginning would save valuable time and energy.
By knowing the learning styles of your student you can plan the delivery of content more effectively. You know they will be recieving the information in the most efficient and understandable method.
