I find that it is very useful to know how your students learn best. I continually vary my activites to reach all different learning styles and explain to my students why the teaching methods are varied. Working in education you have to know how to successful reach all learning styles and adapt so the students can be successful.
Without a doubt the single most important aspect to making sure your student is getting what/and how you are trying to teach. I wish their was a way to have students where a name tag stating what kind of learner they are in order for it to be easier for us as teachers.

One way is to simply explain each learning style and have them write about which one(s) they prefer. It not only gives the instructor significant information about the student, but it will show the student that the instructor has respect and concern for his/her students.
Understanding different learning styles allows instructors to develop a variety of activities that allow students to tap into their strengths. If a student is having difficulty with a topic, then knowing the student's learning style can help the instructor explain the ideas in a different way that better fits the student's strength.
It is very beneficial to understand how various students learn. By doing so you know how to tap into their style and make class more interesting for them and easier to understand. By understanding learning styles can make an instructor better becuase they use various styles of teaching, which gives the instructor a broader ability to educate.
By knowing the various leraning styles of the students, the instructor can target verious groups of students. By applying as many instructional styles as possible to meet the various learning styles, the students will all have something to benefit from.
Help in my preparation for class activities and class lecture. Knowing the student learning style will give me the tools I need for instructing. If am in tone with my students and their needs of learning than I can be tranfer the knowledge I have to them effectively.
Most of our students have english as a second language. As an instuctor base we hit the basic four and reevaluate early on with class participation either as a recap or part of the intro on the next class....

I think it helps to customize the content for the class as well as know that if a student or group of students are not getting the information then you can adjust the content delivery to meet their individual learning style.
I "test" the students personality and learning styles as part of building rapport in the first class, and they really enjoy that process. They know that I am trying to connect with them, better, but they also know that knowledge will help them in other classes, or in their career!
By knowing the learning styles of my students I can capture each students expected learning experience. I think I'm lucky that I personally identify with each of the learning styles; mostly tactile. In my classes I always try to incorporate each style.

By understanding the learning styles of your students, you can develop your classes to become the most beneficial for the people participating in your class. This overall helps you become a more effective instructor.
By acknowledging how my students learn best gives me ideas on how to present my material in a manner that the whole class can understand. Also by supplying various learning techniques, it makes it more fun for the students to learn and understand the objectives presented in class.
It is extremely important to understand the various styles of learning that your students possess in order to convey your classroom material more effectively.
