Hi Phil,Thanks for your post to the forum. You are using some great strategies for visual learners. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan

We use power point slides, flow diagrams, and linear charts in our presentations. This is used to demonstrate the sequential planning process that we use. All of which is very helpful and beneficial.

Hi Tricia , Excellent strategies! Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan

We use demonstrations for visual learners as well as power points when learning to perform a new skill.

Hi Peter, I agree -that's a more interactive approach. SWusan

When working with diagrams where the student also needs to understand function I usually pass out the diagram for the student to participate in the process. This way they can draw on their diagram and follow along as I am teaching. I feel this holds their attention more than if I just throw up a diagram and start talking about it.

To begin with, you have to make an assessment of your student's learning style during the first few sessions. Once the learning styles have been identified, it is a matter to accommodate the students to better their learning experience. For visual learners, the use of power point helps to provide imagery via pictures, flow charts, graphs. The use of colours is important to highlight specific words or concepts, thereby drawing the student's attention to these important concepts. However, the visual coupled with reading material for those students who prefer the written word, lecture/discussion and activity best drives the points home. Just because these students are visual learners doesn't mean they can't learn through other formats.

Hi William, Thanks for your post to the forum. Adding the relevant links to your ppts is terrific! Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan

I like to utilize powerpoint presentations as a guide to present class material. Adding links to short videos, images, and/or graphs help visual learners grasp the material presented.

Hi Jessica, You are quite welcome; I am glad that you have found the course useful! Susan

Thank you for the well prepared content. It will only enhance the student's experience in the class room.

Hi Austin, There are so many options for visual learners these days! I so enjoy using videos and graphics in my online classes. I guess because I am also a visual learner!

I like to use the white board frequently to help with visual learners. Working in the culinary field, I can draw pictures of processes such as fabrication or mixing methods on the board, making lectures fun and engaing but also helping to reach those who are more sutied to visual learning.

PowerPoints, pictures, writing key points out on the chalk board and demonstrations when possible are examples of strategies that can be used to help visual lerners.

Hi Debbie, That is really excellent - Thanks for sharing!! Susan

Susan - here is the shared link to my Prezi design that you requested.

Hi Debbie, Wow! I also us the motivated sequence in my classes. Would you be willing to share an example of your mind map presention? Thanks! Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan

I think teaching a communication theory (or any other theories, for that matter) can be challenging when creating a lesson plan for a visual learner. But as an instructor with a preference to learn visually, I came up with this idea...

I made a Prezi presentation - a mind map slide presentation, that illustrated the steps involved in the Motivated Sequence Communication theory by Alan Monroe. I chose various apple images to be the "core" of each step to help with memorization.

As we moved through the presentation followed by short discussions at each point, I was eventually able to show each apple image in the mind map (minus any text that was there previously) and the students were able to explain to me how the Motivation Sequence Communication theory worked.

I then followed up with asking them to look in magazines in the library or search for online advertisements, or company websites for this communication theory, so they could see how this theory is applied practically in their everyday life (thus the tactile or kinesthetic learner method was involved too).

I really like using power points in class for discussion. I also like demonstrating skills needed in our profession
