Questioning
As a librarian, I am always asking questions of my patrons to help them to develop an inquiring mind. The students must learn how to logically think about their research projects and what type of resources will best fit their end goal in writing a research paper. This means I need to help them by asking questions of them about the resources that they are using. Is Wikipedia, the best resource to use for a college research paper? How, do they know that the website that they found is accurate? How, do would you find a resource in the library, or on its website? I am always asking these questions and I feel they really help students to understand where the best information can be found. It also helps them become lifelong learners.
HI - Thanks for your post to the forum. Funny though how students can find anything THEY want to find on the internet! (-: Susan
Having computers gives us easier access to information. I find students give me the first result in a google search. Or "I couldn`t find anything on the subject matter" and then 2 monutes later I get the result. Its like they need a "how to use the web for research" class 101.
I find students are not questioning. They seem to have an inability to spend time researching information. An inability to compare information. There are always one or two in the class who get it right but a majority who give me half hearted efforts.

HI Carol - You are my hero! As you point out, Librarians are eager to help our students to get the information that they need. Also as you mention, there is the assumption that if it is on the internet it must be true/correct - arrghh!! I applaud your efforts! Best wishes- Susan
