Engaging the Shy Student
One of the techniques that I have used in the past to engage the shy student is to ask them questions that or more opinion based. I will first ask a student that is very opinionated a question and then ask the shy student what they thought about the answer from the other student. Usually what ends up happening is they will say something that I can pull out of their answer to ask them to expand a little more on.
I know sometimes it is hard to engage the students that are shy
I never like to ask the shy students the first question. Let let hear others answers first and then like to ask their opinion on what a more outspoken student has already said...
This is a very good technique that way they are not put on the spot they will just have to expand on the topic...I will deinitely try this method!
Very good idea. I usually ask more of a broad question to try and draw them in to the discussion first. I find that a lot of times this builds their confidence for the next discussion.
Good idea, I also assign shy student to groups and make them the group leaders.
That's a good idea. I will have to use this method on my shy students. Thanks for the tip.
