A Two Way Street

It goes both ways in the classroom - if you are learning, the students are learning; if you respect them, they will respect you. When you are honest with them, you will get honesty in return.

Hi Christin!

Sharing real life experiences helps build instructor/student classroom relationships. It brings reality to learning.

Keep up the good work!

I like to use life situations to relate to the students.I feel that if I connect in a real example that they do respond to me better & open up & ask more questions.

Hi Kathy!

There is a great deal of responsibility that goes along with being an instructor. We set the stage for attitudes and behaviors and role-model those attitudes and behaviors. I like "passing the torch" and I know that students respect that approach.

Keep up the good work!

I agree I always tell my students to be honest with me, as it is a part of who they are, we are all human and to admit a mistake rather than lie or cover it up goes a long way. We never stop learning thier is always something new to learn from eachother. I would hope and do think I have a great repore with my students because I don't Think as myself as being so high above them but rather passing the torch

I agree. Students today do not want an instructor that judt talks "at" them. They want to see an openness and to really learn, they need to be engaged, asking questions, and be part of the solution. With this the future will be much brighter for them and the world, as we will havepeople that know how to think!

This is nice to hear. To me life is a 2 way street, when i give positively to people i expect it in return, right or wrong it is a barometer in life to me.

I believe that my students enjoy when the topics are fresh and new. When they can swich roles with me and teach the class something new and exciting they are energized. It is important to give their ideas and needs a voice in the class. The culinary industry is always changing. New and exciting restaurants are openings, others closing. Cuisines are shifting and techniques are evolving.

Taking a fresh approch, as if you the instructor are seeing the subject matter for the first time also. This can be done by looking at it through the students eyes, or from there chair so to speak. Study them and pick new ways to relay the information as you see the need. It keeps you the instructor on your toes with new directions for the learning process. Each class is different adapt to them in fun ways.

I teach reproductive health and I am constantly learning from my students. Many of them are currently employed in the field we are talking about. Others have been patients / consumers of that field. It is great to get the consumer's perspective, it helps us all to be better at what we are doing.

I strongly agree and follow the same principles as of now I have seen great sucess.
