I try to stay current with new developments in medicine, and for promoting class discussion on topics having to do with what I'm teaching, so I do a balace between my need to learn more about what I teach and seek new ways to encourage the interest on the class and make it more enjoyable

Rasiel,
I think that this is a great strategy to continue to grow & learn both as a teacher & practitioner.

william,
I agree that this is a great way to learn & grow in our own expertise.

I almost always try to be well versed in the subject I teach, is one of the main things, once you have the knowledge to implement new techniques in the classroom learning and practical things, use of posters, powerpoints, colors , music, question and answer methods, change of position in the class, among others.

I like to observe other instructors.
I get soo much out of watching others, I use little pieces of many instructors that I have admired in the past

Kimbely,
that is a great idea & way to grow in your knowledge of the field as well as in teaching.

I balance my need to learn with the need to develop new ways of teaching on a regular basis. One thing that I do is that while I am reserching or studying a new topic, I ask myself how could this have been more interesting for me to learn? The answer to that question helps me plan how to teach the information to my class.

Carol,
that is great, I think we have to set the example to our students of constantly learning.

Carol,
I agree that we must constantly push to keep things moving & exciting, that includes our presentations.

a lot of reading and watching other teachers that I think are successful with students. I have been teaching for a number of years but never stop learning

we no longer can stand in front of the class and lecture to them. With a variety of students we find a variety of learning styles. Merely to lecture will put them to sleep

shalika,
this is definitely a challenge for instructors & very needed.

implementing a strong effort towards time management.

Usually I plan my daily routine and I attempt to stay within the time schedule. This method helps me to stay focus and complete the task at hand.

Harriet,
I think by truly knowing the material, as you said here, then we do a better job of incorporating the experiences into it.

Dr. Ryan Meers

I believe in the constant search to understand the material at hand in a way that I can more easily incorporate past experiences into the material, and hence making it more interesting to the student. Providing concrete examples of real world situations in which the student might be able to incorporate the lesson. This engages the students because they can better project themselves.

Students expect you to be aware of the latest developments in your field. If the student mentions something he or she read and you are not familiar with it, promise to research that topic and discuss it at the next class...and FOLLOW THROUGH! It is terrible for your students' perception of your integrity and respect if you don't.

Thanks to the internet, it is easier to keep up-to-date in the business field. I've also found a host of online information that is easily and readily shared in the classroom. This is one way I've tried to appeal to the "Net Generation" of learners.

With a little color, splash, and video, the same information that is so dry in a textbook becomes livlier and more interesting.

Jonathan,
this is a great illustration of incorporating professional development into all that you do.
