I find that using word associations and examples that students can relate to from current events or pop culture assist in remembering the facts of the objectives I am teaching. I use a combination of drawings, symbols, abreviations, words and silly examples to repeat the information and review material. It's a valuable tool and leads itself nicely to starter material, review or everyday lessons.
When giving memorable examples, I try to give rela-life examples; ones that either have come from my life or from someone I know in the field. It usually helps the student to relate it to what they are learning or doing for a project.
It shows how the learned material can be used in a real life situation.
Examples give the students a reference point for the information. It makes the information relevent. It helps them to remember the main point or objective.
Memorable examples are valuable because they give the student concrete associations between a concept and a concept in action. For example students will be able to write more descriptively when I introduce the topic of description by relating a well told descriptive story and follow up with the elements of a a good description. Then we revisit the story that I told and discuss the descriptive elements.
After that discussion and in the next class, we will review the elements of descriptive writing, read a well written descriptive essay. Discuss it and then practice. The students have heard, discussed, read and practiced the various elements of descriptive writing. They have used multiple senses and will remember elements of description much better and longer.
Often students will remember the "real-world example" you gave them, drawing on your field experience, longer than they will even remember the details of the lesson as layed out in a slideshow or a book.
Hi Hiliana!
Life is built on memorable experiences and if we can share those in a classroom setting it helps in preparing students for the workforce.
Keep up the good work!

Life experiences can be a great example the will stay with the students and that they can relate to when covering a subject.
True life examples make good impacts if they are specific to the point.
Using memorable examples improves overall retention. The example provides a connection that improves the students' ability to remember the content of the lesson.
Just like it was stated in the material from this lesson the students want examples that make sense to them. If we are using an example of something that happened in the field they are feeling our enthusiasm which makes it stick a little more.
Provides students with personal experiences and real life applications of material. Brings course content material to "life". Becomes more relevant and easier to understand and retain.
It enables them to put a picture in their head of what is being discussed. It also frequently inspires students to discuss some of the examples in their own experiences.
I too like to use illustrations. Teaching in a technical setting, I find that a mixture of learning tools is helpful, but I am always sure to include at least one visual.
You want to always make an impact on your students. Giving them examples they can relate to, remember, and show the application of the classroom material is very powerful.
I agree.
Illustrations, stroies, hyperboles, etc. all paint powerful mental images and this help students remember and it make learning more interesting.
Examples sucha as illustrations or stories are a great teaching aid. The mind is a powerful learning tool. By the use of illustrations it helps the students picture in thier minds what you are trying to convey. Teaching with th euse of illustrations help the students get the point and it is a great retention aid.
I find giving real world examples into my classroom gives the students a better grasp on the content. Making real world connections is important in the learning process.
Memorable examples bring the material to life. Of course by their definition these examples stick in students' minds. By having some easily recollected scenarios in mind, they can assimilate new information with old.
I believe using these examples brings the material on paper to life which make the content real.
