Maintaining Eye Contact
for those 2-3 seconds the student feelslike you are talking directly to them
Eye contact used effectively can be an invaluable tool during instruction and classroom management.
Sometimes it only takes a glance from the instructor to get the student back on track or a glance to stop the annoying tapping of a pen in class. Both examples put the student(s) in focus and do not disrupt learning. Furthermore will keep the flow of instruction on track.
Hi Teresita!
The eye contact from an instructor can boost students' self-confidence as well. It certainly helps to keep student focused and involved.
Good work!

What is the value of having eye contact with students?
Hi Sean,
Being in an Online environment and not having the abililty to do that during a lecutre makes it that much more important for our students to stay engaged.
It allows the student to feel like he is part of the group
Maintaining eye contact promotes connection with my group and makes the students feel they are part of the activity and feels significant in the success of the learning experience. Looking into their eyes makes them attentive in the process.
allows student to know that they are important
Seems to maintain securty and sincerty with student
Very nicely put Jeffrey! I couldn't agree more.
Keep up the good work!

Eye contact is integral in communication via body language. Many times we are unaware of the signals our posture, facial expressions, and body movements are sending to students. Their subconscious will pick up on it, even when their conscious doesn't. So in addition to having a positive tone and demeanor, we need to make sure our body language is not sending a different, undesirable message.
Hi Allen!
Students are much more aware of their surroundings when the instructor makes eye contact. They feel like they are really important to the learning process.
Keep up the good work!

It seems like one of the basic human concepts that most strive for is connection, acceptance, wanting to feel as though they are involved rather than being left out or forgotten about. The eye contact would seem to be a decent reinforcement of this concept and may even have a more deeper, profound affect on a student from the inside-out.
Eye contact earns the student's respect and draws them into the topic.
I think it's a good way to let the student know that you are talking directly them. It also keeps attention to that student. Students want to be noticed.
I totally agree, they become evolved and know you are`not a drone.
Maintaining eye contact also important to get students' attention and make sure they are parying attention to the instructor and instructions. Additionally, keeping constant eye contact keep students focused on the delivery by the instructor.
I believe that maintaining eye contact with the students shows them how important they are and how important the lecture is.
Hi Esther!
So how do you know students are connecting with the topic by maintaining eye contact? What are the clues?
Good work!

I feel that the student will feel like you are interested in their learning. That looking each student in the eye for several seconds makes the lecture more personal for the student.
