teaching

I like to give a topic to the clas, and listen to different discussions, and then give my feed back.

Hi Perry!

Point well made! So important that we get to know students.

Keep up the good work!

I don't always find that being ignored causes a student to cease to learn. This may be true in some cases, but certainly not all. There are those students who want to be "invisible" in the classroom and are acdtually pleased that they have been "left out".

I agree instructors must be very perceptive, but in being perceptive we recognize those students that really are uncomfortable as the focuse within a particular setting.

On the whole, it is very important that no student feels ignored or left out. But, there are the above exceptions.

I agree Laurie!

When a student feels like they have been left out or ignored, they cease to learn. Instructors have to be very perceptive to the timing of our delivery and response to students.

Keep up the good work!

I teach and intereact. You can really lose a lot of student interaction if a student would like to discuss something and then it fizzles out before they get a chance to discuss it. It has happened to me.

I always teach first and leave dicussions to the end of class time or right before breaks.

I have found that to be a good way to keep them involved and they seem to do better on test that way.

Hi Karen!

Good idea!

Under these circumstances, I put students in groups and I ask students to come back with 2/3 questions to ask there classmates. This gets them involved and ensures learning as well.

Keep up the good work!

Hi Kris!

What do you mean by "very limited time"?

If I have limited time to teach an objective, but feel its necessary to cover it, I give a handout and discuss it with them. This is done to decrease the time in which I write on the whiteboard. The next day, I will cover the same objectives. This is especially important when the topic has much material to cover and students need additional time to absorb it.

What do you do if you have very limited time to teach the material?
