Hi Jennifer!

So true! It also helps students realize just how much they already know - it's such a morale booster.

Keep up the good work!

Greetings Jon!

I like your comments. I hope that students are given the opportunity to also share life experiences. WOW - what we can learn from them!

Keep up the good work!

It makes the lesson more relevant if they can tie it to their own personal experience. They can see the value in the lesson and therefore it makes it personal and they tend to take more ownership.

I think that when an adult learner uses life experiences in the classroom, it helps them translate what they already know to what they are learning. Which I think will also enhance their confidence on the subject

When students share their life experiences during class discussion they are able to relate with the topic being discussed and realize how past experiences can be applied to their future career.

Not only is it a great way to show your students that you are human and approachable, it also encourages good conversation. I suggest telling them about your failures as well as triumphs

Hi Lynn!

I really like your thoughts on using life experiences in the classroom. Life experiences are so important in getting to know our students as individuals as well as their academic backgrounds, goals and aspirations.

Keep up the good work!

Greetings Rita!

What I like about using life experiences in the classroom is that it helps to prepare students for the workforce.

Keep up the good work!

Yes Sharon! Shared learning can be equally as important as what we learn in the classroom. When we share life experiences, it becomes applied learning based on the classroom expereince.

Good job!

Sharing my experiences tells the student I am a human person and made mistakes too. Also it lets them know they will make it if they try

Everyone has life experiences that can help someone else relate. Also, I teach in a health field and to bring patients health situations into the picture speaks volumes in helping students understand content.

I think life experiences are great. For students, this practice can offer hope after hearing what others might have experienced. For those sharing experiences, it is a sign of them opening up and engaging in the class. It is also great for instructors to share life experiences. In addition to showing students their human side, this practice could help forge relationships because might feel more connected.

Everybody has a warehouse of knowledge and it is very important that everyone gets to share their experiences. Sharing helps students relate with the instuctor and also with each other. It also tells the student that you matter. Your background is what brought you here today and will help to move you along in achieving your goals.

I think this is a good way for them to know a little about you as a teacher and you can have fun with it, if it is some thing funny that has happen to you in your career. The student can learn from your experiences.

Most likely one of your students will go thru the same problem or scenario.. whats important is that you have discussed with them how you have handled the situation and now they can make an informed descission when they are faced with the same problem or situation.

Through the use of sharing life experiences, other students gain an insight into the life of their fellow students, building respect while enhancing their own understanding.

This has been a wonderful technique in the classroom. It really gets the students engaged with each other, and it also helps to feed very pertinently into the lecture or the topic at hand. I really enjoy hearing the student's stories, and whenever I share my stories (especially some of the really gory medical stories!) it makes the students even more excited to be there and to be learning.

Hi Jeffrey!

I couldn't agree more! Tying concepts to real life experiences certainly offers the opportunity for real life, on-going learning.

Keep up the good work!

Sharing my life experiences helps them relate what the work force will be like. Also gets them interested in the topic and leads to some interesting discussions.

I find that when I take THEIR life experience and weave it into my (and other's) professional experience that I am able to give them far more relevant and practical real-life examples and connections. They are then better connected and better motivated to continue making connections from their own life.
