Hi Steve!

I agree! The other thing is it opens the world of real life experiences which is so valuable in preparation for professional and career development.

Good job!

Life experiences are essential to the classroom for the simply fact that they help to provide a "real life" example of why the student is in school. Todays students need and want to know how they are going to apply what they are learning. Allowing other students to tell some of their experiences will help to show the others how the material will be applied.

Using real life experiences in teaching helps add relevance to the subject matter and it also helps build an instructor's credibility.

by using real past experience it helps the student understand what they can expect.

When an instructor uses life-experience it helps create a connection with the students. The students can learn valuable lessons, and it helps break up the monotony. In addition, the students get a glimpse into the instructor's life which is often times humorous.

helps to give students examples of sucess

Life experience enables the student to realize they really do understand the material because they are part of it. It puts book information into a reality.

Greetings Steven!

I am excited to hear that you share failues as well. This is really part of real world experiences and students should know that not everything they do will be successful. What's important is that get up and keep going!

Good job!

The use of life experiences by adult learners helps them increase their confidence in participating in the class. It makes the adult leaners feel like they have something meaningful to contribute to the class, extremely important.

Life experiences provide the student with an opportunity to express their successes. The student is able to associate the lesson being taught with a real world experience. The theoretical aspects of the lesson is beneficial when relevancy can be understood. By sharing lessons learned in the workplace, others in the classroom can benefit and an open dialogue between members of the class is established. Before long, several of the students will share their experiences and how their lessons compliment or differ from those of others.

I always use my past experinces and failures to show my students that no one is perfect and that you can learn from all your mistakes and others.

it is so easy to draw on the many years of expertise in any given field with stories for the students to relate to and shows the teacher has had a large background .

Greetings Larry!

Don't fortget to let students share life experiences as well. I am ALWAYS amazed at what I learn from students.

Keep up the good work!

Relating past experience is good to do because it tells them you know what you are talking about and I think it shows them that you are wanting them to succeed.

A number of the courses I teach become more robust if we enable adult learners in the classroom to share their life experiences.

As an example, I teach a course in Business Professionalism -- a course which explore the world of work from a variety of standpoints: resume preparation, interviewing skills, growth areas in the marketplace and issues such as unemployment.

Adult learners have a wealth of information to share; primarily because they have lived and learned about these items first-hand where some class participants have held solely part-time employment. Sharing insights and experiences enables non-adult learners to relate to the world of work from people who have been there.

Life experiences are crucial in how students learn. We are all products of our evironment. You can use these experiences to acquire various skills that will benefit you in real life situations.

In my field it helps the students in many ways. Sometimes they have already worked in the field or still working in the field and can relate to some of the things we are teaching at the school. Now they refine there skills at school and feel better about themselves later.

Many students are not confident and take the little set backs that occur out of proportion. If my shared experiances and failures can help students understand the material, great. More importantly, learning how to resolve those failures or how to approach a problem will be helpful in all aspects of their lives.

Kyle - I couldn't agree more!

Good job!
