Reviewing
Reviewing is very important in the learning process because it helps the student retain, understand and answer questions on material. Reviewing is a effective learning tool and can be implemented in many different ways. Reviewing in an instructional strategy and should be used in the classrooms to help with retaining and learning information.
Tracy,
Glad you enjoyed the material and I trust that the information will help you with your instructional planning and delivery. I wish you continued teaching success.

Interesting course, What I found the most useful for the students to retain the important information about the material that is taught is reviewing the next day what was discussed the previous day, my class is only 15 days long and reviewing is like redundancy, the more they see the information the more they tend to remember it.
Reviewing is definitly a very important tool in the process of instruction . I review the subject after a particular topic is covered, at the end of the class, before the next topic, before the test and after the test. I find a lot of differece.
Reviews are extremly important on a daily basis. It helps the student(s) to remember the information and the relivency of the information.
I agree with Wanda, A review not only helps them retain the information, it will give most the students insight and confidence of the information they retain without knowing they retained in the first place.
Michele,
Good way to check for understanding while moving the course forward. Each review step reinforces the learning process and this results in greater content retention and course application.

I review a topic immediately after a demonstration. Then I ask the students (in a group setting) to recap what I have demonstrated.
This gives me an opportunity to see if there are gaps in what they have heard/seen/learned.
I can reinforce before they try to execute on their own.
Gary,
Good method. It is fun for the students as you say and gets them involved in recalling what has been taught and helps you to see how they are internalizing it when they explain it to the class.

One of the ways the students like to review material is to have individual or a group of students come to the fron of the class and actually reteach the topic. They find if they can actually do this they really know the material. They really get into this activity and make it fun and when its fun they all learn better.
Steven,
This is what teaching is about. Ah-ha moments motivate us as well as the students. Their confidence soars when they can answer review questions and realize they really have learning a lot.

I love the way you put that about reviews. I often review by asking individual students questions over what was covered a week earlier. When I get the right answer, I may say," Look how much you know. You know more than you think" When this happens, You should see the SMILE I get.
Candace,
Good point because this is one of those "must haves" they will use throughout their careers. Drills, review and application are essential if they are to acquire and retain this information.

I agree that reviewing is very important especially with a topic that is something they will use on a dialy basis such as dental charting. This is used every day as well as on every patient and if it is not reviewed through out the each term then a student may not retain it as well as another one and then they would be lost.
Reviewing essential elements of each lecture aids in the students retention along with asking the students next lecture time, what do you remember from the last time we met.
Wanda,
Another outcome of reviewing is that often students get so bogged down with the course they forget how much they have learned. A review shows them how far they have come since the last review. This is a form of learning scale measurement.
