Graphic organizer gives students a visual of what's important. Students can create a visual image of the graphic that can help them when testing on the materials. It is an easier way to group important information and make easy for note taking.

The use of graphic organizers is a tool that can be utilized to isolate important information. For example, if I were to have a lecture component of my protein fabrication class regarding how efficient butchery leads to a higher quality product and a better profit margin, I could use a circular graph to display the following concept:

1. Purchasing whole chickens from your purveyor out of your business's bank account
2. Efficient removal of meat from bone
3. Proper handling of meat yields greater portion to the guest and less money lost to waste
4. Proper handling of the carcass yields quality stock used to produce other menu items
5. Selling the menu item that utilizes your well-butchered protein and stock, getting the highest return on your investment of the initial chicken.
6. More money in the bank.

Good way to get your students engaged in learning the parts of a transmission in a graphic way. By having them label the picture themselves you are helping them to personalize the information and this will result in a higher content retention rate.

I use a numbered pictorial breakdown of a transmission that I give out to the students. When introducing new terminology (component name) I tell the students what item number it is during the lecture period. I encourage them to label their picture, along with their own description of the components function.

My favorite graphic organizer is a flow chart used in computer programming. Like learning objectives, it can keep the course developer on track in designing learning segments, with decision elements added to test knowledge. They can also be used to pass out to the students to help them to understand the path and pace of the class.

Even after writing many learning objectives, I'd still rather see it in a graphic rather than a textual form. And, I'm afraid I'm as bad in reading the los of a new class I'm taking as any other student.

It is one more tool for the students to call upon as they are moving through a course. Graphic organizers can help to support those students that are not that good at note taking. They help such student relax a bit because they see that they are getting the content organized in a way that will enable them to go back and study it when needed.

It helps them to literally see the information. If taking notes this is a great way to show information. It can help them see the relevance of the information as well.

Graphic organizers can help isolate information that was taught in the classroom. When the students have pictures or digrahms it helps to retain informaion and it will recall what was taught in class much easier because it will be a visual aid

Graphic organizers can help student organize there notes, especially when the subject matter is very comprehensive (example; pharmacology. Students are able to organize information into a structural form or integrate information with other content. I find this to be a good tactic for students in progressively fast pace courses.

For my class graphic organizers are used to assist students in developing patient interview techniques. After a bit or trial and error students have been able to intergrate the patient interview into an effective triage tool.

I use these techniques with my students with great results. The more connections I can help them make the greater the retention of the content is going to be. I call it "connecting the dots" to create a learning picture for the students.

Good approach and one that enables each student to see the parts as well as the whole but not become overwhelmed in the process. It is much like answering the age old question. "How do you eat an elephant?" Answer: "One bite at a time." This is what learning is like for many students. The key is helping them to see how they can take the one bite and then another and another.
