Never Enough Time!
I have read through most of the posts in this forum and I agree with so many of you.
My personal issue is the obstacle of control. I often feel as if my school, students, and other external demands are in control of my time. I already make a to-do list, but I am also seeking other tips to better manage my time and to keep me in control of my job, my life, and my time!
Thanks for reading.
Cheryl
So glad that you are seeing so many other instructors in your shoes Shane. Sometimes it's just nice to know there are other people out there like us, sharing our challenges and ways to overcome them too!
Wow, I never realized so many feel the same way, I work 40 hrs and take on line classes and starting a min 15 hr per week clinical. I really enjoy and appreciate all the input
Yes, it's interesting the way that works Robert. Sometimes when we have less time and our schedule becomes more demanding, we actually find more motivation to be efficient. When we have too much time on our hands, we can become a bit too relaxed.
I recently started to work the swing shift (1600-1100) and find that my time management skills immediately improved. When manageing a seemingly infinite and flexible amount of time, ie: after work to bed time, I never seemed to get things done, procrastinasion on a small scale was killing me. Now I have a concrete deadline when I have to get to work in the afternoon, prioritizing has become second nature and my time is used much more effectivly.
This is true. Ultimately, we have to focus on what really matters to us. Identifying what that is is a good first step Kenneth.
This may be generalizing, but I cope with time constraints by reminding myself that this is my life. When career, family and personal commitments start to collide, I focus on what is TRULY important to me. Usually this thought process alone brings some serenity to me.
Cheryl, Seem that each day brings new list and tighter and tighter time frame. I am going to present top few items on to-do list to manager and ask which they would like done first when a new task is requsted. Pat j
I agree 100 % about making the to-do lists. When I first starting teaching over a year ago, I always felt so unorganized. When I started writing myself to-do lists, everything seemed to fall into place. Now when I leave work I'm not worried about leaving things left unfinished, beacuse I check things off as I go along.I feel like this helps me better manage my time, and I can spend more quality time with my family.
Thanks,
Bridgett
