Time Management

When trying to accomplish all that is necessary as a team leader in the course of a day, the to-do list helps me be more effective. However, time constraints do not allow completion of all items. Some of the tasks have to be folded over to the next day. The list for the next day must include unfinished tasks.

Having a to do list is very important. I evaluated my lists at the end of each day to determine what if anything can be left for the next day. I add to my list things to complete as needed.

Hi Klaus,
You sound like me. I used the mental list but then I found that I was selecting off the list the easy things to do because I had shoved the harder tasks back in my mind. The physical list helps me to confront my tasks and get them in priority.

I used to make a list but then I got to thinking I do not need it because I could remember every thing. Now that I started to make a list again I am able to focus on important tasks first.

To-do lists are very helpful, I share mine with my team and ask them to add if they have anything, then we work together to try to accomplish as much as possible.

This is true Billy. That's why so many people keep lists in the first place. It's so hard to remember all the important things. Also, when we get list items out of our minds and on paper, our minds are often a lot clearer.

it's important to make a to do list, but not to make it too long. Too Long of a list will lead to never accomplishing the entire list and making things seems fruitless as a result.

I do have to take notes, When things come up sometimes you will need to put things off, but I would not remember all of thoes tasks if not wrote down.

I have been keeping to-do lists since high school. In college, my to-do lists were kept in journals and I couldn't function if I didn't know where my journal was. I now keep to-do lists electronically and try to respond to reminders and update my lists regularly.

I suffer from task immediacy and insecurity, and sometimes focus more on my lists than on prioritizing and completing tasks. Do others suffer from this? What steps have you taken to overcome them?

To do lists serve as a reminder of task that require my attention. They remain fluid as new tasks are added and may take a place of greater urgency. The line through the completed task marks successful completion and a sense of accomplishment.

Yes, for a lot of instructors, to do lists help with memory for important tasks. When we free our minds from task management we can focus on getting the work done.

A to do list is necessary for me so I don't forget important and needed tasks.

I am always looking for new ways to effectively manage my "rollover" items on my to do lists. I have found that, if my to do list is more than a page long, I tend to overlook items on the next page. I usually keep two lists: an overall list of all the things I need to do, like the one mentioned toward the beginning of the module, and a second list of "things to do today." This helps me to keep a shorter list of urgent, important tasks on hand without losing track of all the little things that need to be done too.

To-do list help keep me on track also. Yes,some things can't be accomplished in the time frame allotted. As with most plans though, they are not written in stone....as things change so do our prioities so my list can be in a state of flux.

Time management is important, as I only have so much time to teach and test students in each course. We have a written final as well as a hands on final. Our hands on final is 100% and our written is 80% to pass. I need to manage my time to be able to teach each class properly.

Yes, prioritization is the key Kerry. We've got to establish what's most important and chip away at that first. Otherwise, it's easy to get overwhelmed and feel like we're not making enough progress.

To do list are good. If I don't have one I will forget important things to do. Prioritizing them is a must. You are right that you may not get everything done and you must start your battle the next day.
