Mise En Place

Task Prioritization is essentially what we refer to as "Mise En Place" in our Culinary Teachings.
It is necessary to have everything in its place and in an order that makes sense. Time management is crucial in the kitchen.

Brenda, Yes, improvisation is a wonderful technique. I know some faculty and administrators who have actually taken improvisation acting courses so they could get better at their teaching jobs.

And along with this is also a sense of urgency and learning how to improvise whenever we encounter those "bumps in the road" by re-prioritizing again.

That is most certain. The importance of Mise en place is a topic that is highly stressed to the students that I teach. Mental and physical organization is a key component that must be carried out if a Chef wants to be functional in a kitchen environment. This involves plenty of tasks in order to facilitate execution. When everything is in its place then things will fall in the way that they should. Of course there will always be bumps in the road but that is when we have to learn from those mistakes and prepare next time just in case the same situation were to occur again and to prevent it.

Indeed! There are several educational disciplines where timing is critical. It is absolutely essential in Culinary. Teaching your students effective time management is the key to their success.
