Dont make it over whelming while teaching
I think the biggest thing is organizing yourself and that helps minimize the stress you create for yourself. You can't always eliminate the stress that comes from others in your environment, but you can do a lot about what you create for yourself.
Thomas, It sounds like you understand the unique task demands and personal situations that your students find themselves in. It is critically important that we approach our students from a place of understanding. This is one of the best ways to foster their learning.

I completely agree with this statement but it can be hard as a full time career college instructor when administration is constantly changing the way you are required to conduct your classroom. Sometimes it feels as if they are taking away all instructional freedom and trying to fit our classes into a nice little box and that is really stressful.
Agreed. I realize that most of my students are not traditional college students. Most of the students are married, have kids, legal problems, 2-3 jobs, etc. Therefore, I try to give time in class to complete homework assignments.
