Stress Reduction

Do your job to the best of your abilities and be prepared at all times so that your upper management cannot give you a hard time for not doing so.

Joe, Yes, sometimes people need to check themselves into a clinic to get the right kind of treatment for stress. Sometimes working independently on stress management is not enough. It's ok to admit when a stress problem is too big and when you need help managing it.

There are a few wellness clinics that are very helpfull in reduseing strees levels down to an acceptable level so that a persons health can be at a much better condition .

Indeed true Matthew. Just getting out there and even doing some light walking can make a tremendous difference!

Exercise is a great way to reduce stress. A couple of hours a week will do wonders.

i am blessed to have a very supportive upper management team who encourages creativity in the classroom, and being prepared ahead of time allows for a lot more creativity and fun in the class.

I agree on this. I take the time and review the Daily Instructor Sheets given to us by our Corporate office and I will still take the time to put my own notes and information in on top of their information so when I do review the sheet the day before so I can prepare there will be no surprises due to something they forgot or if we had to adjust something due to our campus.

Good points Yan. Some instructors get so overwhelmed with stress that they churn out quickly. It's the ones who can handle stress that last the longest within our organizations. As Darwin once said, it's not the strongest or the fittest who survive but the ones who are most adaptive to change.

I don't think that we should be concerned or stressed over "upper management" happyness/unhappiness. Our goal is to teach and to make our students successful in their career. It is difficult and stressful job by definition. I have known people who were not able to cope with all the stresses related to Intructor's job at career college and they are not around anymore. My only advice for those with "stress coping" problem: either learn quickly how to handle stress or go find another job or another career.

Preparing for the next day is high on the priority list if it is not done it can lead to a stressfull day

totally agree...being prepared is the key to student satisfaction, as well as personal satisfaction.

This is true Donna. Sometimes it's much easier when we get ahead of the stressor and do something about it. It can be worth it to invest a little time upfront to save us some longer term pain.

Not being prepared is a huge stress. It is worth completing a lesson plan before the class so you don't become stressed.

For me, the best stress reliever is having my tasks lined out for with to do lists. If I know what I need to do one day it is a lot easier for me to focus and get things done. If I feel like I have a million things to do and no set-up list I get anxiety.

Well said and I agree as well Michael. Sometimes we've just got to focus on what we know we're responsible for and start there. Often times, everything else falls into place.

Glenn, I agree with you. Just do your job, do it right and the rest will follow!!

Do your homework!!! The class expects perfection, professional approach. Review each days lecture the night before. You want NO slow spots or DEAD air. The students attention span can waver.

I am really blessed because upper management is great with me. They hear what I have to say and help make the right changes so that the students and me are happier. In exchange for that I want to make them happy and do the best I can. We all work together great!

Keeping your leadership team happy is an important task Chris. Glad you brought this up. When your administration is happy with your performance, it's often a lot easier to be successful and get things accomplished.

Keeping the upper management happy is always a way to not have stress come your way. Just accept whatever the corporation says they really care about us!!
