Organization

I currently teach three classes, and I don't have the benefit of having an office at the school. I've found that creating different sections within the bag I carry to school every day helps me stay organized, as well as keeping papers organized and grouped. This can be challenging, but it forces me to remain organized!

I have multiple classes as well. I try to have each class in their own bag, so I would know where everything is located for each particular class. It can be challenging at times especially when I teach the same class but at different times of the week.

I also use this method, since I teach 4 classes and do not have an office to store anything in. We do have small storage cabinets in every classroom with 3 shelves in them. At the start of each class, I usually claim the least cluttered shelf for my materials and re-organize whatever is necessary to make everything fit neatly.

Wow, sounds like you are very organized Teresa! Love the idea of the color coding. I can see how that would be a big help.

I use a similar strategy and find it to be a time-saver, as well. I don't get things mixed up. I also use color-coding to keep material separate. And, I also have a master folder with schedules and additional things I am working on, which I carry everywhere.

Sounds like an ideal plan Nancy. Now it's time to get everyone who you're sharing with on board. I might suggest a group meeting but if you're on alternate schedules, a simple email will likely do the trick. This idea will likely benefit everyone involved.

I like the idea of defining mine and our spaces. I share a 4 seat cubical and between us we teach 7 different courses. ther are some common books we could share by useing a small bookcase and then keep the rest at our spaces right now we borrow the shared book and they park of the last person desk.

I agree, unfortunately, since I teach in two different trade schools. That task has become a true feat, I am able to organize folders and notes at home, but not when Im on the run. I wind up cramming everything in to my bag and then off I go. I am aware until I break that cycle I won't find peace of mind when handling my paperwork.

I organize everything in different areas. I believe organizatin causes less stress in personal and work life

That is great! I also keep a small portable filing cart that is sectioned off. Most definitely helps staying organized while being, clean, neat and portable!

That sounds good Katie. I sometimes teach 4 or 5 classes;I have four right now. I am lucky enough however to have my own desk and computer. It does make it a lot easier to be organized.

I do the same thing as well, I have have a travel bag I have converted to being my mobile filing cabinet

That is a very creative way to stay organized when you do not have the luxury of an office. I do somewhat of the same thing. I carry a different bag to school almost every day. I have different bags (one for each class). This way I know on Tuesday, I need to carry the blue bag. It helps me to stay organized.

yes , keeping all the classes seperate are very important, i teach 6 different courses and have one file cabinet to store ALL my papers, , i placed all my powerpoint hanouts for each class in different folders and placed them according to the day they are presented, I call them my master copies, and every day i simply grap that days hand out and run copies for all the students and im ready and don't have to worry about carring around such large loads of paper

I do the same thing. I feel more confident when I am organized. I also save time and do not have to worry a lot when I am organized.

One thing I have really worked on is organization. I make sure that I have everything prepped, printed, and ready for class. I know the students are very appreciatative because of my organization.

I usually keep all my lectures, handouts, tests, quizzes, and everything else in a binder for each module that I teach. That way I always have my material with me for that modukle.

That is very detailed and I believe to be the best way to stay organized. I also teach 3 classes and the only way that I can stay organized and on top of things per class, is to keep three separate compartment for each individual class.

Interesting approach Katie! Thanks for sharing. I know many instructors in your situation and your way of organizing sounds handy.

I do the same thing. I different briefcase for each course. I also do not misplace items either.
