MULTITASKING

Having many responsibilities from different jobs at once makes me multitask in order to be effective in every one. Sometimes I count on that to save time and meet dead lines and when I can't multitask I feel the stress and I can't get to chose what to leave undone, everything seems important.

Multitasking on one of my strong points.. however, I do get very over whelmed when others expectations of me is abused. I have taught myself to NOT volunteer to do task that others can do. I've learned that I have options to what I can and can not do. You would not believe the headaches and the back/muscle ace I was having due to work related STRESS! Realizing my options has helped both at work and home.

Andrew, You've got to know yourself to be best at time management. It's important to identify our weaknesses and also our strengths in the process of becoming more efficient. If you need a plan to produce great work that's on time, it's definitely best to produce one.

Some people are very good at multitasking, but for people like me that cant I need to rely on a plan I make a plan that maximizes time management. This works great for me.

To do lists make it much less stressful. I just cant multi task. I have to do one at a time. I know thats not good!

Up to a point, we can do what we call "multitasking" but in reality we are just switching between tasks quikly. For things that require focus, the to do list and one thing at a time leads to a better quality of output.
Since it also takes a finite amount if time to "switch gears" I would expect more output that way too.
Very frequently, I have a student wanting to text while we are talking. Then he later claims I did not tell him something that he needed to know. I did tell him, but he was either reading or typing and did not get all he needed.
The only creatures I know of that can truely multitask are the mythical hydra and a push-me-pull-you from Dr. Dolittle.
We can only multitask what uses little brain power.

I agree. Finish & put away each task even if there many in differnt stages of completion. Take the one that is ready , complete & move to the next in list of importance. Soo all fall in line to get completed while those done do not come back to haunt you.

need to go back too "to do lists". multitasking also gets us into the "walk by the mailbox routine" and doesn't get the important things done - leading to more stress

Laura, find ways to continue to multitask. It does save ways and it will make a difference in your schedule. It will allow you to compile and complete the teasks you are responsible for.

Laura, Multitasking is critical to our success these days. So many of us are balancing multiple jobs and life responsibilities.
