Stress of finding coping mechanisms

I find that in terms of time management it is difficult to schedule some of the coping mechanisms. For instance, after a day of teaching I'm too tired to go to a health club, and usually need a nap. Sometimes taking a nap interfere with my sleeping patterns.
Any ideas for this double conflict?

Traci, Sounds like you know yourself and the methods that work best for you. That's great to hear. Yes, some coping mechanisms can interfere with your schedule in negative ways. These are best avoided.

I used to take a nap after work, too, but unfortunately I would have trouble sleeping at night. Now if I am having a rough day and I need some "me" time, I take a hot bath or go for a walk. That way I have no choice but to relax, but I am tired enough for bed later.

I really like going to the gym when I am stressed. Although I feel very tired and don't want to go, I feel great afterwards. I always pack a gym bag before work. That way I go straight to the gym instead of running home to change not only my clothes buy my mind.

James, That's a tough one. On one hand, I should note that both a nap and the gym are coping mechanisms that can reduce stress. So ordinarily it would be ok to do one instead of the other. In your case, napping has some detrimental side effects. I might recommend trying to find another coping mechanism that you can do at home when you are too tired for the club. Reading, watching a movie or talking to a friend could all work.
