Sleep as a stress reliever

Lack of sleep may not necessarily contribute to stress but in can hinder in stress recovery

Helen, Sleep is great as long as we are facing our challenges head on during the day. To your point, avoidance can lead to more stress.

Dr. Melissa Read

I find that I cope with stress by sleeping more! It is a blissful state where there are no stressors. However, I know for me that it can be maladaptive when I use it for avoidance. :(

Kelly, That sounds like a healthy approach! Sleep is not something we can make up for later, so it's important to get enough each day.

This is so true. Many people feel that they cannot possibly accomplish everything that they must in a day and still get 8 hours of sleep. The older I get, the more I realize that I am more productive if I have a good night of sleep every night! It is not an option for me to skip out on sleep.

I agree with you Amy. You need your usual 8 hours of sleep to have a good thought of mind and that your body works properly. I know I feel like this if I get my full 8 hours of sleep. I know I feel drained when I don't get my allot of sleep. if you don't get enough you will be stressing out a lot.

I disagree. Lack of sleep will contribute to your overall stress. Not getting the proper amount of sleep puts stress on your body which essentially stresses your immune system making you more prone to health problems. Therefore, getting adequate sleep, helps keep you heathy, essentially reducing stress.
