Managing stress
There are several ways to minimize stress. Some of these are to eat properly and be fit by getting regular exercise.
Eating right will make us feel less stress because our body will have the boost it needs.
The stronger and more fit that we feel the less impact stress will have on us.
One of the first steps to minimizing our stress is to understand the cause of our stress.
There are several ways that can cope with stress.
One way is to take charge of the situation. Remember to not stress about things or situations that we cannot change. To always think positive.
To depend on your friends and family. To relax either through mediation and prayer.
Sounds like you've stumbled upon something that really works for you Melissa. Keep it up.
I really noticed a difference on how I handle my day when I started eating a real breakfast. I used to just eat a little breakfast bar, or grab whatever on the go, then I started eating a full breakfast with protein and fruit and it really helped me be more productive through out the day.
This is an interesting point Demetris. I'd love to learn more about what these switching techniques entail.
Indeed, it's easier to deal with a stressful job when you enjoy what you do. Sometimes the benefits outweigh the costs.
Stress can be managed by enjoying what you are doing. Eustress is a hectic life style but enjoyed because a purpose is being achieved by doing what you do best. Distress is harmful but can be overcome by eating good food, getting enough sleep to function and having a good family life for support.
I have looked at reducing my stress with some time management ideas - like recycling my presentations instead of re-doing them every term. I also think that I could eliminate a few things like baking cookies although people enjoy them and I do enjoy baking them - right now it just doesn't fit into my schedule. To reduce some of my stress - I like to garden - it is quiet.
Another thing that I try to do to relieve stress is use some thought switching techniques. As a therapist, these techniques are very powerful with my clients. It's when begin to focus on the positives in your life currently and the positives that you expect to have in the future. It really can change your overall affect and your outlook on the day. Try it!
After a horrible divorce and allowing the stress of it to cause me to be hospitalized for 6 days before the Christmas holidays in 2006, I have learned to stop, breathe and just relax. Life is to short to sweat anything. Since that episode in 2006, I exercise on a regular basis, I take "me time" weekly where I just focus on me, I journal and most importantly I see my therapist when needed.
One of the things that help me manage stress is making sure there is some joy in each one of my days. That means, that I schedule something pleasurable in my day. It could include things like, going to the park for a few minutes, talking to an old friend or sitting to have some green tea.
That's exactly what I do too, Pamela. I have an elliptical machine in my office. I have found that I don't really enjoy getting on and bouncing for 45 minutes to an hour; however, when I'm finished, I feel great. I'm not so edgy and feel more at ease and calmer. I can certainly say working out helps me.
Thanks,
Anna
Hi Pamela
I love fitness and working out (my favorite thing to do each day) :)
Do you work out?
Thanks
Alana
I like the idea of taking charge of situations that you can control. So many people stress out about things they really can change.
