Benefits of Exercise
Over the years I have been involved in martial arts, but sometimes go months without going through a normal daily routine. It is during these times that I feel the effects of stress more and more. Even stretching out for half an hour each day helps immensely in reducing stress.
Mario, I have heard the same thing from so many people in this class. It's tempting to save exercise for later in the day and to start our days by accomplishing tasks on our lists. However, exercise puts us in a great position to manage through our days better. With it, we are often more effective at our tasks when we turn our attention to them.

I completely agree that exercise it the best coping mechanism. I like to start my day with it. If I can begin my day with a solid workout, I have a much better feeling (and much more productive) day. I also agree that it needs to be every day. The days I skip a workout, are more stressful and less productive.
Sharmane, Excellent to hear. I'm glad you chose dancing as your example exercise. Many people think exercise isn't fun, but there are a lot of things you can do to get moving and really enjoy yourself too! Glad to hear you've found one of those.

I think that exercise is great for dealing with stress. It allows my mind to relax, help to keep a healthy weight and depending on the exercise e.g. dancing it can be fun and a great way to connect and share with others.
BERNELL DUNN RE THE BENEFITS OF EXERCISE.
FOR me as an instructor I exercise twice a week for 2 hours I feel energetic I keep my weight down ,since I stand a lot on the job my foot feel
stronger and more so I take my mind off a lot of things during the workouts this way I relieve some stress every one should consider some form of exercise this really work.
I agree as well, I am not good at exercising alone so I work out with a personal trainer 3 times a week. Because I have a full time, I find that by having a trainer come to my house works best. Exercise really helps me tremendously - it's a definite stress reliever...worth all the money I spend!
I believe that nothing reduces stress as successfully as exercise. As mentioned it can be any kind, but I think for it to be truly effective it must be done every day. If not you will always find a reason not to do it, and thus the overall stress reduction will be lessened.
Kendra, I feel the same way! I love exercising and it makes me feel so much better after I am done.
I studied American Karate years ago. Enjoyed it very much. I once had a house that had a pool. Swam laps every other day. Loved it!...These days I exercise by jogging/lifting weights at least 4 days out of the week for 20 - 30 minutes. I just feel so much better throughout the day. Even when I'm on vacation I still do the normal routine. For a couple of years I didn't when I was on vacation and couldn't stand the feeling my body had. So I basically go year round.
Mona, I like the way you are able to achieve both a physical and mental escape - at the same time! Nice work. Sometimes is is nice to take a break with some non intellectual reading material.
YES. Being able to do something physical that is very routine is such a joy after having spent your day making decisions at every corner. I will go so far as read (often very non-intellectual!) books and magazines while doing cardio. Great escape that helps out physical and mentally!
I totally agree with you it has really helped me to do anything that makes me move and not think about other things.
Amen to that! Using physical exercise on a consistent basis is a great way for people realign themselves.
Indeed. Even if you just do 15 minutes of stretching at your desk each day, it can make a dramatic difference on your outlook and stress level.
I couldn't live without my exercise program! It really is the best way to get rid of stress. ANY kind of exercise is better than none!
I don't know that much about martial arts. It sounds like it would be an interesting way to eliminate stress.
Exercise is very beneficial. It really helps to eliminate stress. My main problem is finding the time to exercise. I get started and stop due to time constraints.
David, I truly believe that martial arts can reduce stress. Just the thought of it make me smile.
