procrastination

Working smarter not harder

Julie, Sounds like a nice approach and one that works well for you. Based on what you described, every now and then you may experience challenges with immediacy. Sometimes it's OK to wait prior to doing things right away.

Dr. Melissa Read

I try to avoid procrastination as it causes stress.
If I can do the job as soon as possible I try to .
This way I do not have to reread things or redo things.
I read the job once and do it. Once done, I feel good.

Yes this is how I think about procrastination. If I wait too long to deal with a paticular problem it gets worse. I like to finish such problems before the weekend so I don't have to worry and bring my problem home.

It's really interesting when we take a step back and examine our time management skills in work and in life. Instructors often find that there are big differences in how they manage the two. If you are good in one area, try to see if you can leverage those strengths in another.

I might not like procrastination but I do find that everyone procastinates at one point or another. I find my self procrastinating in personal situations vs. work situations. At work, it's get it done now and out of the way. In personal situations, it's I have time, I'll do it later. I am constantly working on overcoming my personal procrastination and hope to one day conquer it.

Glad to hear you have that kind of drive and initiative Sue. I imagine it gets you far.

I like to get things finished! I am not one who likes to put things off for another time. If given an assignment or project I want to get started and see its completeion.

Kathleen, I'm the same way. I work better under pressure. When I have too much time on my hands NOTHING get done right. All my assignments that turn in at the 11th hour is always perfect.

I also try to finish thing during the time needed. I do not think being worried about things help either

This is probably a good approach for students Josh because they often have a problem with procrastination.

I say that all the time, and it's so true. I also say to my students, "now, not later" and "today, not tomorrow". I suggest that if possible at the end of every class to go in the library and do whatever homework or project they need to work on.

This is true Kathleen. Deadlines can give instructors the motivation they need to finish. Sometimes when a deadline is too far out, it's hard to get your head in the game. A little pressure can sometimes make a positive difference.

If it weren't for procrastination, nothing would get done! I think that when approaching a deadline, we deal with a healthy amount of stress that makes us focus on the task at hand. Too often if I start a project early, I find that my thoughts/actions are scattered and I don't accomplish much in a meaningful way. I don't like to wait until the 11th hour all the time, but a little procrastination isn't a bad thing.

Sounds like your balancing a lot Diana. It's a good thing you don't like procrastination. Probably helps out a lot in ensuring everything on your very busy plate gets done!

I don't like procrastination. Usually by the time I get around to doing what I said I would do, something else has come up and that puts you further back from where you need to be. I like to stay on track with my tasks. Even if I have to write it down, which usually helps me better.
I'm working two jobs, taking care of a home, trying to exercise, relax and some fun. I must have a list of things to do at all times.
