Managing Stress
Conciously identifying stress in my life is the first step for me and leads to an active plan for overcoming stress.
I recognize the stress triggers and pause. remind myself to act on something andmove the peices. I amke sure I put the time for me and health or else it will nip me later
This is a good point Cornelius. It's so easy to react to things in our environment. Our quick reactions are not always the right call. It's better to take a step back, think about the impact of our response choices and then act.
Taking the time to think about a situation before responding is a great way to lower ones stress level. Often we as emotional creatures "respond" before we "think" instead of vice versa. This can cause many health problems such as high blood pressure and headaches.
I think your point about how we respond is key Julie. Some people respond poorly to stress and sadly, this can cause even more stress in their lives. Others handle stress in a calm and confident manner.
stress is a part of life but, how we respond changes it all. I have a busy homelife and also 2 jobs one teaching and one as a staff nurse in an ED. I love both and enjoy what it has to offer. I do however take time for me to enjoy my family and attend church and bible study and spend time with friends just laughing and having a good time.
I agree Carrie! Just a bit of fresh air can make such a dramatic difference! Even if you can't get outside, opening a window while you're working can really change your state of mind.
Hi Robert,
Identifying stress is most important! I usually feel it coming on, and when I do I know I need to step back a take a deep breath. Fresh air help, and even a quick walk. I try my best to handle it in a healthy way.

This is a good point Erica and something to keep in mind. Coping mechanisms like running should be kept simple and fun so as not to add stress to your daily routine.
Sometimes the activities we use to reduce stress can become too stressful if our expectations are too high. For example, I keep my exercise routine simple and fun; otherwise, I know I will not exercise
I agree completely. Once those stressors are identified, I will try and get rid of them. However, that cannot always be done, so taking small steps to overcome those works well.
Sounds like an excellent approach Jacky and one that's certainly working well for you! Keep up the great work. Breaking down tasks into manageable pieces is a strategy that works well for many instructors.
Work load sometimes can be enormous. So i divide the tasks into small sections instead of facing the job all at once. When doing so,I ELIMINATE these small tasks from my mind therefore reduces stress.
Let me know how it works out I am gonna need it.
