Managing Stress

I often find that any change of environment during the day can reduce stress. But some workers are stuck in their environment. How can they simulate an environmental change? Screen savers? Office art? Background music?

I am in 100% agreement with this! Laughing is definitely the best medicine and can break tension in the matter of seconds.

I find if I am getting stressed out I usually will take a little 5-10 minute walk around the school so I can get some fresh air, this helps clear the mind and refocus and get my to-do list in order again.

David, What a great approach. Sounds enjoyable too. Even if you don't have your own hot tub, you can easily find one at a local gym, at a pool or at a friends' house.

Terry, Sounds like you have a great outlet. Lifting weights and doing cardio helps so many instructors. Sometimes, you have to exert a little energy to feel relaxed in the end.

I find the best way for me to manage my stress is to spend time in the hot tub. It allows me to concentrate only on breathing and it relaxes me. I can see a difference if I skip going to the hot tub on any given day and it seems to keep me grounded.

Stress can affect my day tremendously therefore I head for the gym. Lifting weigts or doing cardio relieves me from within causing tiredness but feeling more relaxed.

I never could find time to take a lunch, let alone eat, which the result is higher stress and weight gain. I would eat on the fly. Now I schedule my lunch in with either a snack lunch or even if I go out to eat, I include a walk around the building. I have had different instructors join me.

Sounds like you have found a wonderful outlet Al! That's great to know. So true about noticing what happens when you skip a day or two. It's amazing how much of an impact going to the gym makes and we really feel it when we miss a day.

Good to hear Mindi. It's hard when stress becomes part of our routine. Sometimes we forget that things are really bothering us. Taking a step back, breaking our routine and doing something about our stress can make a big difference on the quality of our lives.

I guess I have just gotten into a routine in my every day life that now daily stresses has become apart of my routine. I do agree that maybe i need to back the routine to give my self some variety and ruduce my stress.

Sounds like you're dealing with a lot but have some great stress management techniques too. Keep up the good work Ray!

I manage stress by going to the gym and stretching. I have a very stressful life and I try to eat very healthy as well

Indeed true Bruce! Sometimes humor cuts through the seriousness of a stressful life and reminds us of what's really important.

I agree that adding humor to stressful situations or difficult tasks, helps at times refocus students and instructors. Laughter is no doubt a good medicine!

Wow, what an interesting situation you are in Peter. Most instructors do just the opposite. They go home to unwind. So glad to hear your class is great therapy.

I have teenagers at home...girls, so I come to work to get away from stress....I'm stress free when I'm in my classroom. I enjoy my class as it give me something different to focus on.Its actually thereputic.

Humor can definitely get the class relaxed and can help you unwind too Katrena. Thanks for sharing!

I like to add humor to my classes. I do christian comedy as well--it helps to add something funny to help loosen up nervous students at the beginning of difficult lesson.
