Teacher stress is inevitable

Every teacher feels a degree of stress –- it comes with the job.It needs to be reduced to manageable levels before it has a negative affect on your health and well-being.

Matt, Interesting to hear about your diet and the impact it has on your life. I'd be curious to learn about which foods help minimize stress and which ones aggravate things.

I have found that my diet plays a large role with stress. In addition to running, sleep, etc. one should consider what they are eating.

Sometimes I feel like there is nowhere in our entire school where I can get away from the stress of dealing with students for just a few minutes. We have one small instructors' office for everyone, but even in there students are constantly in and out plus the small space also contains the only copier. I'm considering a request that this office be a student free zone.

Relax. Do the best you can.

Robert, This is true most of the time. There are some stressors that can be eliminated in teaching, or ones that eliminate themselves. Problem students are a great example. They are typically are a problem for only a semester or so. After that, they either graduate or complete our courses. So taking a step back, they are in and out of our lives pretty quick.

I could not agree more stress comes with the job.All we can do is try to manage it and learn to accept it.

JOE, Nice advice for sure. Stress definitely pushes us to occasionally reassess our lives. Sometimes it drives us to make career changes. Other times, we simply have to step up our efforts and focus.

I believe that once we recognise that as a teacher there will be stress in our lifes and as teachers then we then have to understand that we and we alone are ultimatly responsible for our lives and as to the degree we allow stress to control our lives. as I once told my son who was venting with me as to his job as a police officer and the stress he goes through in his daily schedule I told him maybe it might be time to reacess your life and your job as well.

Finding healthy coping mechanisms is essential in managing your day to day stress. Also, living healthy will give you the energy your body needs to cope with every day stress.

Pedro, Stress is a part of life and it's something that we must accept. There's often no way around it. A little stress in life is good because it motivates us to keep driving forward. Too much stress can get us into trouble though, and we've got to watch out for that.

Yes, Teacher stress is inevitable but I say more: To Live have always stress and it is part of living. We have just to have control over the height level of stress in our live and eliminate the source of stress that we should and can eliminate.

Alina, So true. It's important to catch stress early before it gets the best of us. Stress can grow, accumulate and get worse when untreated.
