coping mechanisms
I use comedy as a stress relief. I enjoy watching stand up comedy, it really has helped.
I always have a friendly smile and say hello to all the students in my school, even if they are not in my course. Everyone likes to lighten their day.
I agree coping with stress with laughter does work in a stressful situation
Laughter is the best way of coping with some stress. It doesn't need to be a comedy or a joke, just being a friend to students and having a sense of humor when appropriate will relieve a lot of their stress.Smile.
I agree, telling a joke can be both beneficial and harmful at the same time. I have done this and some students Laugh and others get more stressed because of the laughing and wasting time in class. This is a hard challenge to do, because this is one of those things we want to please everyone. Unfortunately you can't please everyone all the time.
comedy is an excellent form. I agree and do this often. this has changed my mood so many times
Jeff, Nice! Sometimes a laugh can completely lightly the room. Other times, it aggravates the situation even more. In the moment, only you know the mood of the room and whether or not humor will be well received.

The curriculum of my class is very stressful because it's a topic that is misunderstood by most of my students. I try to use comedy in the classroom to diffuse some of the tension and create a lighter atmosphere.
A number of my students would say that I'm "funny" because I have been known to walk down the hallways making up silly rhymes to keep from strangling the crap out of someone who so richly deserves it. I will also sing nonsense songs to make myself laugh, because if I don't there could be a meltdown of nuclear proportions..... example: "I like cola, I like gin, this stupid is stuff is gettin' under skin!" Makes me laugh, makes the students wonder just how "crazy" I am, and we all have a bit of stress relief.
