Hi Richard,
Your students should appreciate not having homework, and they should work that much harder in class.
Patricia

I also don't have homework assignments. Everything has to be done in the classroom kitchen. Competencies not completed will be graded on work completed. The student knows this going into the class.

Hi Thomas,
As long as your students understand the expectations that is all that matters. Why don't you give homework?
Patricia

I don't have homework assignments, but I tell my students up front that each day's lab project needs to be completed by the end of class. if not they will have to perform the project over the following day at half the value.

Hi Leonardo,
Some instructors like the window system. I let them know it is due on a particular date and that is it.
Patricia

although i would like to do what walter does with late assingments, I try to give them some window of time to turn the project in. However it will never get 100% credit

I don't accept late assignments in my class.
this wil force them not to come up with excuses or they will get no credit at all.

Hi Lisa,
Point made! What you do for one, you should do for all--be fair!
Patricia

I agree, I think it is important to maintain consistancy, what goes for one goes for the other and that way they can't try all of their CRAZY excuses. LOL

I will accept them with a deduction of points on their grade.
If they actually miss one during class ( quiz), They can take it the next day at 50 percent of their total score or grade .

I take 10 points off for each week that the assignment is late up to 5 weeks....then I no longer accept assignments.

Hi Pete,
At what point do you issue a "0"? I issue a zero after the fourth day.
Patricia

A reduction in grade. The later the assignment the greater the grade reduction.

Hi Pete,
What are you consequences for late assignments?
Patricia

At the begining of the course I review the syllabus along with the deadline and due dates for all course assignments. At this time the consequence for late assignments are explained. This is also reinforced at the time of each individual assignment.

I tell students the first day that if they do not
e-mail me to tell me the reason for an absence or
a late assignment, I will not accept it. This is
an excellent way for me to communicate with my
students. It builds good rapport.

Hi Troy,
What a great way to encourage getting homework done. You let them know up front, this is not a joke.
