assignments
Talking to the students weekly on the assignments that are due keeps them on top of what they need to do.
I have a set day for all the assignments given. For example: I give them an assignment/project every Monday and it is always due by the following Monday. Once or twice during the week I'll do a verbal reminder and on the last day of class for the week I will write the assignment on the board.
This helps the student to continue on track and shows that the instructor is organized and has expectations of each individual to complete their tasks.
the calender is still a good things to do because the students will have something to go off of. even though they may be hold you to it its' better to say things must change to encourage them to be adaptable other then hearing them say you never told and that is the reason why they are not prepared. so how we must get the message through.
I like the idea of the calender but someone told me that never hand out a calender because if you get off schedule they will try to hold you too it. I personally do not agree
Hi Rachel,
Great idea! I have my students go into MS Word and write in the due dates for various assignments, tests, quizzes, projects, etc. as a homework grade. You're right, it is the number 1 remedy for "When is this due?"

I always hand out a calandar on the first day of a new class. It helps alot with the "when is this due" question.
Hi Glenn,
Super ways to remind students about assignments!

I too will use the dry board and give them verbal direction on each assignment due. At my school we post their total homework score in their student portal so that they can see them. Some will allow make up while others do not. I am a firm believer that the student needs to follow direction in order to become successful, if they choose not to follow through its all on them.

Hi Bethanne,
I constantly remind my students. I have been told that I am too reminding, and the students will not have constant reminding in the workplace. I still love to remind my students, such as you do by utilizing the various methods. As you have pointed out, then they can not blame anyone except themselves whenever they do not have the assignment.
Patricia
I think it is very important that we utilize anything we have such as verbal reminders, postings on boards (visual reminders), email, so the students are constantly reminded of deadlines. The more they see it, the less likely they are to forget or procrastinate or put the blame for missing assignments anywhere but where it belongs.
I agree. The first thing I do is make sure the assignments for the week are written on the dry erase board. Then, as the students come in, they will see the information. I also bring the information to their attention during class and e-mail them a reminder for the week.
